Record goalscorer

German striker Miroslav Klose becomes the World Cup record goalscorer with 16 goals with his second of the 2014 finals as Germany defeat Brazil 7-1 in the first semifinal of the tournament, moving him ahead of Brazil’s Ronaldo with 15. The match marks the 23rd finals appearance for the 36-year-old striker for Lazio in the Italian Serie A league, only one fewer appearance than record-holder Lotthar Mathaus who is also German. Klose is Germany’s record goalscorer with 74 goals in 136 games and Die Mannschaft have never lost a match in which he has scored. He is the fourth player to score in four tournaments after Brazilian Pele and West Germany’s Uwe Seeler both scored at the 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970 finals.
