Missing AirAsia plane

AirAsia Indonesia officials report flight QZ8501 is missing. Flying from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore with 162 people aboard flight QZ8501 took off at 5:35 a.m. and lost contact with air traffic control at 7:24 a.m. Murjatmodjo, Indonesia’s acting director general of transportation reports:

We don’t dare to presume what has happened except that it has lost contact.

AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact at 07:24hrs this morning.

Search for the missing Air Asia plane will cease for the night, due to poor visibility. However, large ships in the area will remain near the suspected crash site with their search lights on. Indonesian Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa:

We ended at 5:30 pm (1030 GMT) because it was getting dark. The weather was also not too good as it was getting really cloudy.

Searchers recover bodies and various plane parts from AirAsia Flight QZ8501, indicating that the plane crashed into the Java Sea. Djoko Murjatmodjo, a senior official with Indonesia’s Transportation Ministry:

We’ve confirmed the wreckage was from the body of the plane.
