An advocate for stronger US-India relations, Kalam worked to deepen our space cooperation, forging links with NASA during a 1962 visit to the United States.
Abdul Kalam dies at 83
Kalam dies at a hospital in Meghalaya, where he had gone to deliver a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong. Doctors say he suffered from a cardiac arrest. He is addressing students at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong when he collapses on stage. He is rushed to the Bethany Hospital without a pulse. Doctors are not able to resuscitate him
