Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
The actor stars in this Cold War espionage film based on the 1974 novel by John le Carre. He plays the character Peter Guillam – an agent that has had his cover blown on a mission in North Africa and thus forced to face a demotion in rank to run a branch of their service called the ‘scalphunters’. He eventually proves to be a vital piece of inside information as a mole is discovered within the agency that must be flushed out.
Guillam has a very clear morality. He sees what he is fighting for as the right and good cause and, in a way, he wants to be part of something heroic, like the Hot War, where the lines were very clearly delineated and undivided.
