Heisman Trophy

heismanThe Heisman Trophy is awarded each year in December to the most outstanding player in college football. The award, created in 1935 by the Downtown Athletic Club, was originally named the DAC Trophy. The trophy was renamed in 1936 to honor the death of John Heisman, the club’s athletic director. The winners of the trophy are selected by sports journalists, previous Heisman Trophy winners and a survey of fans by ESPN (which equals one vote). The trophy itself, designed by sculptor Frank Eliscu, is made of bronze and modeled after 1934 New York University football player Ed Smith.

Al Gore

American politician Al Gore was born in Washington, D.C. in 1948.  From 1993-2001, he served as Vice-President during President Bill Clinton’s administration.  In 2000, Gore represented the Democratic Party in the United States Presidential Election.  Even though he won the popular vote, he lost to Republican George W. Bush.  Gore also served as Congressman for Tennessee from 1987-1985 and as a Tennessee Senator from 1985-1993.
