Will sign loyalty pledge

Makes Statement0 Comments

According to sources, Trump has agreed to sign the GOP loyalty pledge that will bind him to endorse the GOP, and would preclude a third-party run. Source:

The rationale is that they have treated him fairly. He’s willing to sign it to avert any problems with is state filings – South Carolina asked for a pledge to support the nominee if you’re on the ballot. He’s been treated fairly, like any candidate. … And it takes away a line of attack for debates.

Signs loyalty pledge

Makes Statement0 Comments

Trump meets with Priebus and signs the RNC loyalty pledge.

The best way for the Republicans to win is if I win the nomination and go directly against whoever they happen to put up. And for that reason, I have signed the pledge. So I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party and for the conservative principles for which it stands. We will go out and fight hard, and we will win.

The RNC has been absolutely terrific over the last two month period and as you know, that’s what I’ve wanted. I don’t want to be treated any differently. [In return for signing] I got an assurance that I will be treated fairly.”

Hugh Hewitt Show interview

Interview0 Comments

Trump appears on Hewitt’s radio show. He appears to mishear “Quds” as “Kurds” and complains of gotcha questions:

Hewitt: On the front of Islamist terrorism, I’m looking for the next commander-in-chief, to know who Hassan Nasrallah is, and Zawahiri, and al-Julani, and al-Baghdadi. Do you know the players without a scorecard, yet, Donald Trump?

Trump: No, you know, I’ll tell you honestly, I think by the time we get to office, they’ll all be changed. They’ll be all gone. I knew you were going to ask me things like this, and there’s no reason, because number one, I’ll find, I will hopefully find General Douglas MacArthur in the pack. I will find whoever it is that I’ll find, and we’ll, but they’re all changing, Hugh. You know, those are like history questions. Do you know this one, do you know that one. I will tell you, I thought you used the word Kurd before. I will tell you that I think the Kurds are the most under-utilized and are being totally mistreated by us. And nobody understands why. But as far as the individual players, of course I don’t know them. I’ve never met them. I haven’t been, you know, in a position to meet them. If, if they’re still there, which is unlikely in many cases, but if they’re still there, I will know them better than I know you.

Asks CNN to donate debate profits to veterans’ charities

Makes Statement0 Comments

In a letter to CNN president Zucker, Trump asks for the company to donate the profits from the next GOP presidential debate to charities benefitting veterans. He says he will send Zucker a list of veterans’ groups that he feels should receive the profits from the September 16 broadcast. Trump cites news that CNN is charging as much as $200,000 for a 30-second ad during the debate — 40 times the usual price.

You should view the second debate broadcast as a public service and not accept the massive profits that this airing will generate. While I refuse to brag, and as you know very well, this tremendous increase in viewer interest and advertising is due 100% to ‘Donald J. Trump’…The veterans of our country, our finest people, have been treated horribly by our government and its ‘all talk and no action’ politicians. In fact, some would say they are treated like third class citizens — even worse, in many cases, than illegal immigrants.

donald-trump-rolling-stone-cover-imageRolling Stone profiles Trump in an article written by Solotaroff, titled Trump Seriously: On the Trail With the GOP’s Tough Guy. On not having to raise campaign funds.

I’m owned by the people! I mean, I’m telling you, I’m no angel, but I’m gonna do right by them!

When Solotaroff is sitting with Trump watching a newscast, a video clip zooms in on Carly Fiorina.

Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president. I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?

Jindal attacks Trump

Makes Statement0 Comments

Jindal attacks Trump in a series of interviews.

We know that Mr. Trump has not read the Bible, and we know this for a simple reason: Donald Trump is not in the Bible. So we know he has not read it.

In reference to Trump’s’ comments on Carly Fiorina:

I think it’s pretty outrageous for him to be attacking anybody’s appearance. He looks like he’s got a squirrel on his head.

Attacks Carson

Interview0 Comments

In an interview with Cuomo on CNN, Trump criticizes Carson’s medical experience.

He makes [Jeb Bush] look like the Energizer Bunny…But Ben Carson, you look at this faith and I don’t think you are going to find so much. And you look at his views on abortion, which were horrendous…Who is he to criticize me on my faith? He was a doctor, perhaps an okay doctor, by the way. You can check that out too. He was an okay doctor, and now because he’s a doctor and he hired one nurse he’s going to be end up being the president of the United States?

Fiorina comments ‘about persona’

Interview0 Comments

In a call to The View, Trump says his comments in Rolling Stone about Carly Fiorina were about her persona.

Look, I’m talking about her persona. She failed miserably at Hewlett Packard and ran for the Senate and lost in a landslide and now running for president. I’m talking about her persona.

Later, to CNN, he calls her “one of the worst (CEOs) ever”.

Fiorina ‘face’ comments made as ‘entertainer’

Interview0 Comments

In an interview with Susteren, Trump says that his comments about Carly Fiorina and other women were made “as an entertainer.”

Many of those comments are made as an entertainer, because I did The Apprentice. It was one of the top shows on television. I decided not to do it again because I wanted to run for president. But some comments are made as an entertainer. And, as everybody said, as an entertainer [it] is a much different ballgame.

Will deport immigrants within two years

Makes Statement0 Comments

In a call to Alabama Republicans Trump says it will take 18 months to two years to get 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally to leave the country, and that he would then build a wall running along the border with Mexico. Trump says his two year benchmark could be met with “really good management.”

We have to get them out. If we have wonderful cases, they can come back in but they have to come back in legally.

Trump also criticizes Ben Carson:

It wouldn’t work for him because he has absolutely no management capability.

Tonight Show interview

Interview0 Comments

Trump is interviewed by Fallon on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. On talking without notes:

I’m blessed with a great memory. If you’re reading a speech, it’s much easier, but you don’t get the feeling. When you do it just off the cuff, it’s a riskier thing, but when you get it right, it’s a thing of beauty.

On Kanye West:

Kanye has been so nice to me. He always says great things to me, so I love Kanye. I love people who are nice to me. Kanye is actually, I know him a little bit, he’s actually a much nicer person than people think. Now if he happens to run for office, and I’m running against him, I’m gonna take that back.

Ctiticizes Trump

Makes Statement0 Comments

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Waters criticizes Trump.

I have [laughed] except it’s not funny that he’s as popular as he is. His ideas [are] not outlandish at all. It’s American exceptionalism gone crazy and delivered under the umbrella of absolute ignorance. He is pig-ignorant and he always was and he always will be. He lives in the illusion that he’s admirable in some way. And obviously for somebody like me, he stands for everything that is not admirable in American society. “Let’s Make America Great Again” [is] the worst possible slogan anybody could ever come up with. It’s silly and disgusting as well, unless they wanted to hark back to the potential. If the Founding Fathers hadn’t been so up their own asses, they might have come up with a system that fell somewhere between republican democracy that was going to work and that had proper checks and balances to prevent it disintegrating into what it has become, which is a country for sale to the highest bidder with the Supreme Court at the top of it, who’s appointed by the highest bidder eventually.

Second GOP Presidential debate

Interview0 Comments

Trump participates in the second Republican presidential debate, hosted by CNN. In an exchange with Carly Fiorina:

Fiorina: I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.
Trump: I think she’s got a beautiful face and I think she’s a beautiful woman.

Your brother, and your brother’s administration, gave us Barack Obama, because it was such a disaster in those last three months that Abraham Lincoln couldn’t have been elected.

Dodges ‘Obama is a Muslim’ question

Interview0 Comments

At a rally in New Hampshire, Trump opts for a question-and-answer format.

Man: We’ve got a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims. You know our current President is one. You know he’s not even an American.
Trump: [laughing] We need this question?
Man: But anyway. We have training camps growing, where they want to kill us. That’s my question: When can we get rid of them?
Trump: We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things…

No ‘moral obligation’ to defend Obama

Makes Statement0 Comments

In a series of tweets, Trump says he has no obligation to defend President Obama:

Am I morally obligated to defend the president every time somebody says something bad or controversial about him? I don’t think so!…If I would have challenged the man, the media would have accused me of interfering with that man’s right of free speech. A no win situation!…This is the first time in my life that I have caused controversy by NOT saying something…If someone made a nasty or controversial statement about me to the president, do you really think he would come to my rescue? No chance!

‘Swedes didn’t blow up the Word Trade Center’

Interview0 Comments

Trump is interviewed by Tapper on CNN’s State Of The Union. Tapper asks about the “Muslim question” controversy:

Tapper: [Y]ou are running to be president of United States of America. That includes millions of peaceful, law-abiding Muslims who love this country. This man said, quote, we have a problem in this country called Muslims. You’re not responsible for what he says, but this is unvarnished ignorant bigotry. You are a leader. You are the frontrunner in the Republican race. Do you not have a responsibility to call out the hatred?
Trump: We could be politically correct, if you want, but are you trying to say we don’t have a problem. I think everybody would agree. I have friends that are Muslims. They’re great people, amazing people. And most Muslims like most everyone these are fabulous people, but we certainly do have a problem. I mean, you have a problem throughout the world.
Tapper: What’s the problem?
Tump: Well, you have radicals that are doing things. It wasn’t people from Sweden that blow up the World Trade Center, Jake.
