Murphy plays James Thunder Early in the classic Dreamgirls. Set in early 1960s to mid-70s, Dreamgirls follows the rise of a trio of women: —Effie, Deena, Lorrell who form a promising girl group called The Dreamettes. At a talent competition, they are discovered by an ambitious manager named Curtis Taylor, Jr. who offers them the opportunity to become the back-up singers for headliner James “Thunder” Early. Murphy plays Donkey again in Shrek 2 alongside co-stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and John Cleese. After Shrek and Fiona marry, they decide to travel back to Far Far Away so that Shrek can meet Fiona’s parents. Her dad is surprised to discover she married an ogre. After much conflict between Shrek and her dad, they find a way to make sure they get along for Fiona’s sake.

Donkey is a really positive character. He’s always looking at the bright side of everything, trying to work it out. A happy-go-lucky donkey.

In this comedy directed by Stephen Herek, Murphy plays G, a holy man on a pilgrimage. While walking across California, G meets Ricky Hayman and Kate Newell, executives at a home shopping network. Hayman and Newell offer kindness to G and in return, he does the same – opening their eyes and hearts and making the world a better place for everyone with his home shopping philosophy. Co-starring Kelly Preston and Jeff Goldblum.

Murphy plays a vampire on the search for a wife in Vampire in Brooklyn with co-stars Angela Bassett, Allen Payne, and Kadeem Hardison. Maximillian must find a mate to keep his life from ending. So he goes to Brooklyn to search for a woman that can bear his child. He finds Bassett and falls in love with her.

I made this movie for one reason: Paramount agreed to release The Nutty Professor’s rights in exchange for this movie. The wig my character wore was so awful it immediately made people despise the film.
