Sex tape art project

Emma Sulkowicz sex tape video imageSulkowicz releases a website and video entitled, Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol (link). The eight-minute video, which is dated August 27, 2012 (the same day as her alleged rape) features Sulkowicz’s and an unidentified  man, whose face is blurred, engaging in what appears to be consensual sex that turns violent. The man open-palm slaps Sulkowicz, chokes her, removes the condom, then continues to have rough sex with Sulkowicz, who whimpers and protests from pain.

Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol is not about one night in August, 2012. It’s about your decisions, starting now. It’s only a reenactment if you disregard my words. It’s about you, not him. Do not watch this video if your motives would upset me, my desires are unclear to you, or my nuances are indecipherable. You might be wondering why I’ve made myself this vulnerable. Look—I want to change the world, and that begins with you, seeing yourself. If you watch this video without my consent, then I hope you reflect on your reasons for objectifying me and participating in my rape, for, in that case, you were the one who couldn’t resist the urge to make Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol about what you wanted to make it about: rape. Please, don’t participate in my rape. Watch kindly.

I don’t believe this is art. It appears to be an attempt to influence the debate about the alleged rape by Nungesser, by staging a re-enactment. By dating the video as the same date as the alleged rape, she is making a clear comparison to what she says happened on August 27, 2012: consensual sex followed by a slap, choking, her attacker pushing her knees onto her chest, grabbing her wrists and and forcing anal intercourse (I can’t see clearly, but I think that’s what it’s supposed to be). These are all the same actions that Nungesser is supposed to have done. The idea being to put in people’s minds that this is how the actual rape happened, but it really throws up more questions than it answers: Why didn’t she resist, or shout out? Why didn’t she scratch if her hands were free? If there’s no resistance. or only… Read more »

You can actually just look it up. Her statement prior to the video is odd to say the least in the sense that if you watch the video that she, herself, presented on the internet of all things, without her consent you are participating in her rape. She also clearly states that it is not a reenactment even though, as you stated, it details the exact events and date of the occurrence. There is a lot wrong with the video and moreso, in my opinion, of her very odd statement prior to the video.
She also states that if you say (basically) anything that is against her you are a rapist (of sorts) and are against her desires to alleviate on campus sexual abuse.
It is very odd.

This is what kind of world we are in, a terrible world where rape happens all the time. Sad to see that it had happened to her.

Sad to see that she lied about it, and was willing to destroy a young man’s life.
BTW, rape, like any other crime, is terrible. And people like Emma Sulkowicz are making it harder for ‘real’ rape victims.
Furthermore, it’s interesting that she keeps referring to him as ‘my’ rapist. A possessive indicator meaning she just can’t let go of him. (Most raped women use the phrase ‘the man who raped me.)
Little lying Emma is going to spend the next twenty years milking her fake rape for all it’s worth.
