Fiorina criticizes Clintons

In Concord, NH, Fiorina criticizes Bill Clinton:

Ten days ago now, while I was in New Hampshire … I got asked by a reporter … whether a woman’s hormones prevented her from serving in the Oval Office. Can anyone here think of a single example where a man’s hormones might have clouded his judgment — including in the Oval Office? I know you laugh, but you know it’s true. There are loads of examples.

On Hillary Clinton:

Hillary Clinton should not be president of the United States. Not because she’s a woman. Hillary Clinton shouldn’t be president of the United States because obviously she is not transparent and she is not trustworthy.

She criticizes Hillary Clinton for once calling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “a positive reformer.” She adds:

Hillary Clinton desperately wants to run a campaign on being the first woman president. She desperately wants to run a campaign on the war on women. And I think Hillary Clinton should have to run her campaign on her own track record, or lack thereof.

Advices One Direction fans

Hawkins advises One Direction fans who are distraught due to Malik leaving the band during his talk at Sydney Opera House.

My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics. Because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes…It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe and in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction.

Commemorates Oklahoma City bombing

Clinton speaks at the 20-year anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, citing a term used by a rescuer at the bombing to describe the generosity of the people of Oklahoma City.

By just living by the Oklahoma Standard, you grew faster than ever before and grew far more prosperous . . . A breathtaking increase in per capita income in these 20 years, but the material gains were incidental. Every family here who lost someone would give it all up in a heartbeat to have their loved ones back.

New Hampshire campaign rally

Paul addresses his first presidential candidate campaign rally in Milford, New Hampshire. He talks about promoting personal freedom, repealing Obamacare and cutting back on defense spending and foreign aid.

It angers me to see mobs burning our flag and chanting, ‘Death to America’ in countries that receive millions of dollars of our foreign aid.

‘Not the only gay person in the NFL’

Speaking at the Dallas Holocaust Museum Upstander Speaker series, Sam claims he is not the only gay player in the NFL. He says that other gay NFL players have reached out to him.

I am not the only gay person in the NFL. I’m just saying there is a lot of us. I respect the players that did reach out to me and had the courage to tell me that they were also gay, but they do not have the same courage as I do to come out before I even played a down in the NFL…Was it a risky move? Yes. But at that moment, the reason why I came out is I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal. Maybe I was naive. Maybe I thought it was 2014, and people will understand that there’s gay NFL players. There’s gay athletes everywhere. But I was clearly wrong. It was a huge deal.

The players who have reached out to me and told me about their sexual orientation, it just means a lot. But I will never say anything about who they are, what teams they are [on]. I’m just saying there’s some famous people, and I’m not the only one.

Warns of climate refugees, 500-year droughts

Kerry, speaking to a group of US ambassadors at the Global Chiefs of Mission Conference, warns them that in the future they will be dealing with climate refugees. Kerry also warned of five-hundred year long droughts.

It is a national security threat, it is a health threat, it’s an environmental threat, it’s an economic threat. We’re spending billions upon billions — $110 billion last year on the damages that occurred because of the increased level of major weather events around the world; droughts that are 500-year droughts, not 100-year droughts; places that have less and less water; food that is less produced where it used to be.

Ninety-seven percent of all the scientists for 20 years tell us unequivocally that this is happening and happening now, and humans are causing it, and we have a responsibility to respond to it.

‘It was beautiful’

After the 60-54 win over Virginia by MSU’s basketball team, Johnson speaks to the entire team.

I just want to say, when you’re in a battle, your seniors gotta step up, all right?…See, you stepped up. And even when [Denzel] Valentine got in foul trouble, you didn’t waver. You kept going…And I think Coach was right: the defense, helping each other, talking — talking. It was beautiful. It was beautiful to watch. And even when they came back and made their run, you stuck to the game plan, you executed and you stuck together.

‘The price of shame’

Lewinsky delivers a talk on cyber bullying and calls for a more compassionate internet at TED 2015 conference.

When my story broke it broke online. It was one of the first times that the traditional news had been usurped by the internet for a major news story. I went from being a private figure to being a publicly humiliated one worldwide. There were mobs of virtual stone-throwers. I was branded a tart, a slut, a whore, a bimbo. I lost my reputation and my dignity and I almost lost my life. Seventeen years ago there was no name for it, but now we call it cyberbullying or online harassment.

Every day online, people – especially young people who are not developmentally equipped to handle this – are so abused and humiliated that they can’t imagine living to the next day. And some don’t.

‘We have a fun deficit in America’

Clinton talks about having sleepaway camps for adults and more relationship-building in Washington, at the American Camp Association of New York and New Jersey’s Tri-State CAMP Conference.

We really need camps for adults. None of the serious stuff … I think we have a fun deficit in America…If you don’t build relationships with people and all you do is show up to argue or show up to point fingers, you can’t get anything done.

SXSW talk

Teller talks at SXSW about the demise of Glass, and the value of failure:

[Glass] was one of those things that we had to get out into the world as soon as possible. We learned a lot of things about the tech, like the battery. It was also valuable for social testing, and I’m really grateful for all of the fearless pioneers who went on that adventure with us…The great decision was to do the Explorer program. The thing that we did not do well is that we allowed, and sometimes even encouraged, too much attention to the program.

If you’re not failing at least some of the time, you could be learning faster. It’s not about going out and not having these bumps and scrapes, it’s about getting full value from them.

SXSW appearance

Rousey appears at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas as representative of UFC and talks about the women perception in sports.

I think that women fighting in the Octagon really affects everything that women see as possible for themselves. It’s not about trying to find a role that already exists that you can fit into. Now it’s trying to dream up all the different roles you can create yourself. Just like we did in fighting, we can do in every single profession out there.

‘Every company will try to out-Siri Siri until we have consciousness.’

Rothblatt gives a speech at SXSW in which she discusses the inevitable emergence of cyber consciousness.

There will be continued advances in software that we see throughout our entire life. Eventually, these advances in software will rise to the level of consciousness…Every company will try to out-Siri Siri until we have consciousness. It will be like water that rises and rises and rises and, before we know it, we’re in an ocean of cyber consciousness…It’s not us versus cyberspace. We’re merging together…We don’t want to create a new slave-versus-free motif. I’m all for merging everyone together. On the level of consciousness, we’re all one…We are the species that keeps pushing further and further and further. There is no line in the sand at which point human consciousness has to end.

‘We need to put a price on denial in politics’

Gore gives a speech at SXSW, calling on attendees to punish climate-change deniers. He says politicians should pay a price for rejecting ‘accepted science.’ Gore also says that smart investors are transitioning towards companies investing in alternative energy.

We need to put a price on carbon to accelerate these market trends. And in order to do that, we need to put a price on denial in politics.

Drexel University talk

Troy Carter Drexel talk2015Carter talks at Westphal College’s URBN Annex in Philadelphia.

I grew up 10 minutes from here. West Philly, born and raised. Grew up right around the corner from Jazzy Jeff.

On tech/music convergence:

There [are] so many similarities to managing artists and also providing service for entrepreneurs. So my job over the years in managing artists has become chief strategist on their team, but also a mentor in their lives. Now, we’re starting to see this convergence. Is a company like Netflix a content company or a tech company? What’s going to happen with SoundCloud or Pandora? My dream in the music business is to see our ‘products’ scale in the same way we have seen Google and Twitter scale.

On finding talent:

I’ve gotten really lucky in my life because I follow my intuition on people. I didn’t have any sort of formal education or anything like that, but I think I’ve always been good at understanding people and staying next to really talented people. And it’s the same thing with entrepreneurs.

On work/life balance:

My son’s first soccer game, I missed a luncheon with President Obama. I thought, my son only gets one first soccer game, I could probably get to meet the president again. I hope! I do meditate. My hobby, I love backgammon. So I play backgammon… nobody knows that.

One of my biggest Achilles’ heels has been my ego. And if I, Kanye West, the very person, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone. People say I have a bad reputation. I think I’ve got the best reputation in the building.

Denies war on women

Ben Carson speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at National Harbor in Maryland February 26, 2015. REUTERS/Kevin LamarqueCarson gives the first address at the CPAC 2015 conference including discussions on pro-life themes and states that abortion advocates label people who are pro-life “anti-woman.”

There is no war on [women], the war is on their babies. Babies that cannot defend themselves. Over the past few decades, we have destroyed 55 million of them. And we have the nerve to call other societies of the past heathen. What we need to do is re-educate the women to understand that they are the defenders of these babies.
