Bond donates correspondence to the Auburn Avenue Research Library in Atlanta. The collection covers the period from 1969 to 1996 and contains correspondence, organizational and institutional material related to the Voter Education Project, Political Associates, and The Southern Elections Fund, includes speeches, political ephemera, articles, poetry and a book written by Bond, as well as items relating to African American political life.

Donates money to protect forests

Disney donates $7 million to support forest conservation efforts, including protection against deforestation in the Amazon, the Congo and throughout the United States. The company partners with Conservation International and The Conservation Fund to support a variety of related causes.

These efforts supplement what we are already doing across the company to cut down on fossil fuel use, to switch to cleaner forms of energy and to educate kids and adults alike about being better environmental stewards.

‘Hope for Haiti’ telethon

Disney VoluntEARS, including Walt Disney World cast members, receive calls and donations during the “Hope for Haiti” telethon, operating out of the Disney Reservations Center in Orlando. The telethon lasts for two hours and allows viewers to donate online and on the phone to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Thousands of Disney Cast Members have personal ties to Haiti and some are still trying to locate friends or family members in the region.

Helps rescue racehorse

Michaels donates thousands of dollars to help the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals rescue a former racehorse headed to the slaughterhouse.  The horse, Royale With Speed, is the grandson of Triple Crown champ Secretariat, and will be looked after by a family in New Mexico.

Study: $2m ‘anti-gay’ donations

An analysis of Chick-fil-A’s charitable donations by Equality Matters and The Advocate, claims that the chain donated almost $2 million to what it calls “anti-gay” groups such as The Family Research Council and Exodus International between 2003 and 2009. WinShape, the Company’s charitable arm received $8,067,161 from Chick-fil-A Inc. In 2010, WinShape donated $1,974,380 to:

  • Marriage & Family Foundation: $1,188,380
  • Fellowship Of Christian Athletes: $480,000
  • National Christian Foundation: $247,500
  • New Mexico Christian Foundation: $54,000
  • Exodus International: $1,000
  • Family Research Council: $1,000
  • Georgia Family Council: $2,500

Donates bobsled to museum

Disneyland donates an old ride vehicle to the National Roller Coaster Museum. The ride vehicle comes from the Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coaster, which received new vehicles along with its refurbishment.

We’re delighted to provide these pieces of Disneyland Resort history to the National Roller Coaster Museum, an organization that celebrates our industry. The Matterhorn bobsled and California Screamin’ signage represent two of our most beloved attractions, from the first tubular steel-tracked roller coaster in the world to one of the longest and most thrilling.

$75,000 cancer donation

Sheen donates $75,000.00 to a  police officer with a 10 year old daughter who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The donation is placed in a family fund to help pay for their incurred expenses.

No parent should have to watch their kid go through that.

Donates to Barrier Brewing Company

Ommegang presents a check for $9,300 to the Barrier Brewing Company to aid in repairs.  The donation, stemming from the Barrier Relief Ale collaboration, includes contributions from Ommegang and from Union Beer Distributers located in Brooklyn. Union Beer Distributers donated $10 for every keg sold ($3200) and Ommegang donated all of their profit from the collaboration ($6100).

$200K National Recording Preservation Foundation donation

White donates $200,000 to help launch the National Recording Preservation Foundation. The donation allows the foundation to start awarding grants and debut its National Recording Preservation Plan. Chairman Brylawski:

With its national plan, the Library of Congress has laid the groundwork for the long-term preservation of our audio history but the challenges to achieving this at a significant scale are daunting. I hope that Mr. White’s extraordinarily generous donation inspires many others, especially those in the recording business — record companies, artists, songwriters, and others — to follow his lead to help ensure that we are able to preserve and make accessible recent and historical recordings at risk of loss.

Pledges $50m to teach girls to code

Google pledges $50 million over the next three years into its Made With Code effort. The Company hopes to connect more girls to CS courses available through Khan Academy or Code academy. Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of YouTube says that less than 1% of high school girls expressed an interest in majoring in computer science.

Coding isn’t just a skill useful for working at a tech company; engineering isn’t just for engineers. Interior design. Medicine. Architecture. Music. No matter what a girl dreams of doing, learning how to code will help her get there.

Wounded Warrior Project donation

Starbucks donates $50,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project – a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to men and women who incurred physical or mental injuries while serving in the military. For every specially marked Verismo System that was sold, $5 of the funds went to the Project.

There’s so much more that we can do. It feels good to know that we – along with our customers – are helping make a difference in the lives of military men and women with specific needs after their service.

Retweet donation raises over $150K

Ver creates a donation program for Ulbright’s legal fund:

I’ll give $10 to @Free_Ross for each RT. If guilty, he’s a hero. If innocent, he needs help.http://freeross.org/

The post quickly receives over 15,000 retweets, or around $150,000, which Ver pledges will be give to the Free Ross Ulbright campaign. In a statement to Coin Telegraph:

I think that each individual owns their own body, and has the absolute right to put whatever they want into it.  The police, judges, and jail guards who lock people in cages for ingesting  substances without the permission of strangers, are the ones committing evil and need to stop. If Ross Ulbricht  is DPR and helped facilitate the these voluntary interactions,  he is a hero for helping provide the technology that allowed peaceful people to ignore the violent threats from strangers calling themselves politicians and law enforcement. If Ross is falsely accused,  and was not DPR,  then he deserves the best defense money can buy. Either way,  he deserves the support of anyone who is opposed to the war on drugs.
