Koeman: Barkley snub a ‘wake-up call’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Koeman says Barkley’s omission against Manchester City should act as a “wake-up call.” Barkley, who has already lost his place in the England squad, was an unused substitute in the game.

He was okay, very disappointed but you need to be disappointed if you don’t start. In my opinion it was the best lineup to have the best chance at Manchester City last week. If I am not totally happy or it’s a tactical question then he doesn’t start. I still believe in his qualities but maybe its a good wake-up call for him last weekend. He is already playing four years in the first team. You are not any more ‘a talent.’ That means you need to show more and improve.

Tim HowardCrystal palace win at Goodison Park with goals from Mile Jedinak, who scores from penalty spot in the 30th minute, Frazier Campbell in the 54th minute, and Yannick Bolasie in the 69th. Everton get in the lead in the 9th minute through Romelo Lukaku and get their second from Leiton Baines who scores an 83rd minute penalty. Martinez:

The penalty was an incredible reward for Palace and from then on the mental change allowed Palace to have a lot of belief and to change the game. It was very uncharacteristic of us to concede three goals with three errors, but even then the character was incredible and we almost managed to get something out of the game.

We’re all frustrated, we all wanted a really good result. You talk about two international players and they don’t normally make those mistakes. They are devastated and will be hurting for next few days.
It’s important we get good results while building a team. They are working extremely hard to try to get that.

I had the chance to speak with the manager over the last few days and we agreed that this was what we would do.I was impressed with his enthusiasm but also by the knowledge of football that Roberto Martinez carries, his vision of football and how he reads football. I still think I can learn a great deal from him here

Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream for me and I have achieved that dream. This is the biggest level for me to play at. I know that it’s a very competitive league and I believe with hard work we’re going to be successful this season.

Lukaku signs for the Goodison park club from Chelsea for £28 million. The Belgian plays the role of striker and his squad number is 10. He has been playing for Everton on loan and realises he gets more chances to play than at Chelsea.

I don’t have any regrets. I am very happy with the choices I’ve made. Sometimes things like this happen in football. Sometimes it’s not meant to be. Chelsea are a big club and when I arrived I was 18. I was very ambitious. They taught me how to be a professional, a work ethic and a winning mentality. It is a great football club. I wouldn’t say anything bad about that club but I didn’t want to on the bench for 10 years
