Wants to be ‘the small business President’

Gives Talk1 Comments

Clinton participates in a discussion about the local and national economy with the community in New Hampshire. Her main focus for this discussion is how the state of the economy affects small businesses.

There’s nothing more important than small business, it is the engine of economic growth, it is where most of our jobs come from, and I want to be the small business President.

Agrees with U.S. policy on Iraq

Press Conference0 Comments

At a news conference in New Hampshipre Clinton speaks on the U.S. handling of Iraq.

I think it’s a very difficult situation and I basically agree with the policies that we are currently following, and that is, American air support is available. American intelligence and surveillance is available.

American trainers are trying to undo the damage that was done to the Iraqi army by former prime minister Maliki, who bears a very big part of the responsibility for what is happening inside of Iraq today.

This has to be fought by and won by Iraqis. There is no role whatsoever for American soldiers on the ground to go back, other than in the capacity as trainers and advisers.

Castro defends Clinton

Interview0 Comments

Castro appears on CNN and answers questions about Clinton and the 2016 campaign.

Let’s take a look at this issue of Benghazi. This thing has been studied to death by Republicans and Democrats, several committees including in Congress that have all said, yes, of course what happened was tragic but Secretary Clinton was not in any way at all responsible. And what you have here with these e-mails is basically a witch hunt. And you know, Congressman Gowdy, who is leading this, is very intentionally trying to manipulate this witch hunt to play politics.

I think we need focus on more substantive things. As one who hasn’t spent my lifetime in D.C., I know that out there in America they care about are you reducing Veteran homelessness, are you providing the impetus for young people to be able to achieve their dreams, are we making sure that America in this 21st century remains the undisputed land of opportunity, not whether somebody had e-mails or didn’t have them

Opens online store

Opens Store0 Comments

Clinton launches her online store, which allows Clinton both to sell goods to bankroll her campaign and to build out her email list for fundraising down the road. Visitors to the store can find a $30 “pantsuit te” with the Hillary logo, or a t-shirt with the words “women’s rights are human rights are women’s rights,” which echoes Clinton’s 1995 speech in Beijing. A $55-stitched pillow in the store says “A woman’s place is in the White House,” a coffee mug has the words “Red, white and brew, “a pint glass with the words “made from 100% shattered glass ceiling,” a hoodie, a “canvass canvas” bag, and an I <3 Hillary tumbler.

All the products in the store are American made, according to a Clinton campaign official. The models in the photos are Clinton campaign staffers.

First major campaign speech

Gives Talk0 Comments

Clinton launches her campaign in earnest with a 45-minute address on Roosevelt Island in New York City:

It is wonderful…to be here in this beautiful park dedicated to Franklin Roosevelt’s enduring vision of America, the nation we want to be.

The speech emphasizes her biography:

I may not be the youngest candidate in this race, but I’ll be the youngest woman president in the history of the United States.

Clinton tells how her mother was abandoned by her own parents and started supporting herself as a teenager:

My mother taught me that everybody needs a chance and a champion. She knew what it was like not to have either one. I wish my mother could have been with us longer. I wish she could have seen Chelsea become a mother herself. I wish she could have met Charlotte. I wish she could have seen the America we’re going to build together.

And her view that American success should be measured by how well ordinary families are doing, not by the wealth of a few.

It’s America’s basic bargain: if you do your part, you ought to be able to get ahead. Democracy can’t be just for billionaires and corporations. Prosperity and democracy are part of your basic bargain too. I’m not running for some Americans, but for all Americans…You brought our country back. Now it’s time — your time — to secure our gains and move ahead

Makes Statement0 Comments

Trump says Clinton is “the worst secretary of state in the history of our nation.”

The world blew up around us

He aslo criticizes her stance on immigration:

[She’ll] let everybody come in… killers, criminals, drug dealers…Hillary’s weak on immigration. I might be divisive on immigration, but she’s weak on immigration, which is far worse…If you listen to Hillary, she is so weak on immigration, we will have a crime rate like you’ve never seen.

Federation of Teachers endorsement

Political Endorsement0 Comments

The American Federation of Teachers, a 1.6 million-strong national union, votes to endorse Clinton for the 2016 Democratic presidential primary.

Hillary Clinton, a product of public schools herself, believes in the promise of public education. From early childhood learning through higher education, she sees how that promise can create real opportunity for kids, building a much-needed bridge to the middle class.

Clinton speaks often on the campaign trail about early childhood education, particularly on the importance of speaking and singing to young children, and calls for universal pre-kindergarten. She has endorsed President Obama’s plan to make community colleges free.

Defends Planned Parenthood

Makes Statement0 Comments

Clinton defends Planned Parenthood, which has faced recent criticism for a video made by anti-abortion activists that alleges the group’s clinics are illegally selling tissue from aborted fetuses for profit, a charge the group denies. Clinton condemns the recent backlash as another effort to chip away at a woman’s right to a legal abortion. She calls the video footage, which shows an official from the group discussing the price of providing fetal parts, the latest effort of a years-long “concerted attack” against “a woman’s right to choose.”

Planned Parenthood has apologized for the insensitivity of the employee who was taped. And they will continue to answer questions for Congress and others.

Possible criminal investigation

The Justice Department receives requests to open a criminal investigation regarding into whether classified material was improperly shared on the former secretary of state’s account. A memo sent Thursday to lawmakers from the intelligence community’s IG repeats the claim, saying emails they reviewed contained classified information even though they weren’t marked as such. a spokesperson says they raised concerns with the FBI:

that these emails exist on at least one private server and thumb drive with classified information and those are not in the government’s possession.

Benghazi committee date confusion

Clinton’s campaign spokesman says she will testify publicly before a House select committee on October 22, 2015, about her role in the 2012 Benghazi attack, which resulted in the death of four Americans. However a spokesperson for the committee says the timing is not set because of ongoing negotiations with Clinton’s lawyer over ground rules. Clinton’s attorney:

On the grounds of simple fairness and in order to make appropriate preparation possible, the scope of the questioning [should] be consistent with the scope set forth in the resolution establishing the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi.

The Committee intends to diss Clinton’s’ emails in relation to the attack:

The Committee will not, now or ever, accept artificial limitations on its congressionally-directed jurisdiction. Once there is an agreement on the date and a better understanding of how, if at all, Secretary Clinton’s lawyer’s latest writing differs from previous ones, the Committee will announce said hearing date.

‘Never sent classified information’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Clinton says she did not send classified emails from her private server while she was secretary of state.

I am confident that I never sent nor received any information that was classified at the time it was sent and received.

Clinton says has no idea what are the four specific emails the inspector general us talking about in his letter to Congress.

But the facts are pretty clear. I did not send or receive anything that was classified at the time. The vast majority of anything that I sent or received was already on the State Department system, the unclassified State Department system. In order to respond to freedom of information requests, you’d have to go through the same process.

Stand For Reality ad

Press Conference0 Comments

Clinton unveils her some of her climate change agenda, along with a video titled, Stand for Reality. In the video she talks over quotes about climate change by Jeb Bush, Rand Paul and Donald Trump.

It’s hard to believe there are people running for president who still refuse to accept the settled science of climate change, who would rather remind us they’re not scientists than listen to those who are. You don’t have to be scientist to take on this urgent challenge that threatens us all. You just have to be willing to act. Those people on the other side, they will answer any question about climate change by saying, ‘I’m not a scientist.’ Well, I’m not a scientist either. I’m just a grandmother with two eyes and a brain.

Clinton also outlines two positions she will take if she wins: to have more than half a billion solar panels installed across the country by the end of her first term, and to have the U.S. generate enough clean renewable energy to power every home in America within 10 years.

Calls Weiner ‘worst deviant in U.S.’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Trump claims Abedin has access to Clinton’s emails and that her husband, Weiner, is a deviant.

So think of this – Hillary is giving confidential, top-of-the-line secrets to Huma, who has all her information. Because everything goes through Huma – she has everything – who’s telling her husband, who’s a deviant and now works for a public relations firm…The person seeing her [Clinton’s] emails more than anybody else is Huma. And who’s Huma married to? The worst deviant in the United States of America, right? Weiner!

General Petraeus, his life has been destroyed over a tiny fraction of what she [Clinton] did. He didn’t burn his hard drive. He didn’t get rid of the emails. He told somebody about it, but he didn’t get rid of them. It’s criminal! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s criminal!
