Dozen Melbourne women join

29 May, 2015

This week at least a dozen women leave Melbourne, Australia behind to go join Islamic State. At least five of those reach out over social media to say that they have successfully joined the terrorist group. It is strongly suspected that several of the women are forced into sexual servitude, with the rest unaccounted for completely. Police:

[They think] that they’ll go over there and life will be really good for them, that they’ll be put on a pedestal, The reality is the information that we’re getting back from overseas is that the lifestyle’s not so good at all…We want people to understand that it’s not just a phenomenon of young men wanting to travel over to the conflict zone and join ISIS, there are women that are being lured there as well. [The women say that] they’re travelling for some other purpose and then they subsequently go to the conflict zone
