Jackson is interviewed by Hall on The Arsenio Hall Show. They talk about her shyness off stage, where the concept for Rhythm Nation comes from, and the design of her album cover.

The record company begged me to do it in color but I didn’t want to I wanted it to be in black and white. For one it’s very dramatic, the main reason is that all us being the video we’re all different shades of gray. There’s no this color or that.
