Tavis Smiley interview

Interview0 Comments

Tripplehorn discusses her new movie, Morning, that was written, directed by, and co-stars her husband Leland Orser, in this interview for PBS.

It just so happened he was my husband, but I really – his script was stellar. It was a perfect, beautiful script, and I knew he knew what he wanted. So I knew as a director that there would be no tension, because all any actor wants from their director is for them to steer that ship, to lead them. I knew he knew what he wanted, so it was easy. It was pretty flawless.

Tripplehorn plays Alice in this drama co-starring and written and directed by Tripplehorn’s real-life husband, Leland Orser.  In the days following the tragic loss of their only child, Alice and her husband Mark deal with it in their own ways before coming together to share their grief. Co-starring Laura Linney and Elliot Gould. Orser speaks of shooting a pivotal scene with Tripplehorn:

Film started to roll and when I quietly said, ‘action,’ Jeanne opened her eyes. She knew the role and the script so well. She had done her homework. She’d worked on it for weeks. She was connected. She was ready. She opened her mouth and she let go. I could see it in her eyes immediately. She was there. She was in. All you could hear were the quiet haunted words as they came out of her mouth and the calm reassurance of Laura’s warm voice. So personal. So private. So painful. So raw.  The result … well, the result is what you see in this clip when you’re watching the film. The result was that first take, the rehearsal we filmed.

Tripplehorn plays Jacqueline “Jackie” Bouvier Kennedy Onassis in this HBO drama written and directed by Michael Sucsy. After learning of the squalor in which her aunt, Big Edie Beale, and cousin, Little Edie Beale, are living, Jackie comes to their home and pays for the needed renovations. Co-starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore.

I thought that by being in this project I would have some questions answered about exactly what was going on psychologically with Little Edie, which just goes to show that these relationships are endlessly fascinating and will continue to be interpreted and reinterpreted. I don’t see an end in sight.
