I know we pissed some people off the first season. Aaron is creating something under a very big spotlight. It’s something original, and he’s out there doing it by himself. There are going to be people who don’t like that. But I give him a lot of credit.

Daniels wins the Emmy Award for Lead Actor in a Drama at the 65th Annual Emmy Awards for portraying Will McAvoy in The Newsroom.

It’s a great time to be in television. I felt the work stood up to what the other guys were doing, but we’re all doing different things. It’s anybody’s game. I was happy to win but surprised because it could have been anyone.

Esquire interviews Daniels about the Dumb and Dumber sequel and how the original film has grown a diverse fan base.

We had no idea it would. And I think that’s what drove the sequel: the response at five years later, 10 years, 15 years later. And people of all ages, not just teenage boys. But people of all ages coming up and going “That movie! I watch it every time it’s on. I’ve rented the DVD, I’ve worn it out.” Those kinds of comments. Or men, perfectly important, serious, esteemed individuals, coming over to me quoting lines from Dumb and Dumber. You’re just going “There’s something to this movie and I don’t quite know what it is but it seems like a sequel would be a good idea.”
