Lila & Eve
Lopez stars in this movie about two mothers who set out to take revenge after the son of Lila (Viola Davis) is killed in a drive-by shooting. The film is written by Pat Gilfillan and directed by Charles Stone III.
I think with Eve’s character, being a mom, understanding what it is to love a child, all of that was stuff I understood as well. I always try to pick parts where I can really contribute the emotional weight that the character requires. I’ve never lost a child, thank God. To love a child is to understand what it could be to go through something like this.
The Boy Next Door
In this drama directed by Rob Cohen based on a book by Barbara Curry, Lopez plays Peterson, a recently cheated-on married woman who falls for a younger man who has just moved in next door. When she breaks up with him, he starts to stalk her. Co starring Ryan Guzman, Ian Nelson, John Corbet, Kristin Chenoweth, Lexi Atkins, Hill Harper, Jack Wallace and Adam Hicks.
When I read the script, I liked the character because I felt it was very related. She’s a woman in a long marriage, her husband just cheated on her, and she’s kind of at the lowest point in her life. She’s at that moment and then this guy comes along — the boy next door shows up — and starts making her feel like she is worth something. That she is desirable in some way and reminds her because she’s feeling the total opposite in that moment. And then of course, [she] makes a mistake and crosses the line and it changes their lives forever. But I really did love [how] she’s strong, but she’s vulnerable at the same time.
Parker
Lopez stars in Parker as Leslie Rogers, a depressed, unsuccessful real-estate agent living with her mother. A thief left for dead by his double-crossing crew begets a new disguise and makes an unlikely alliance out of Leslie. Together they look to hijack the score of the crew’s latest heist.
