The world has changed so much since then. Social media, and what people are watching. But I think innocence was one of the draws of the show. It was these kids going through first love and heartbreak and growing up and friendships changing. So I’m glad that the innocence still holds up.
Admits Church was factor in divorce
During a deposition for his lawsuit against Bauer Media, Cruise admits his involvement with the Church led to his divorce from Holmes. When asked if she ever claimed it was due to his religion or because she wanted to protect their daughter from Scientology, he responded:
Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes.
Cruise also admits their daughter, Suri, is no longer a Scientologist.

We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life. All the lawyers and the parties are happy that it’s done, the deal was closed, and we wish everyone well.
Divorce settlement
Holmes and Cruise reach a divorce settlement. Cruise main condition was that he wanted to retain contact with Suri. Although the full financials details of their divorce are never publicly disclosed, Holmes reportedly collects about $400,000 annually from Cruise in child support for their Suri. The payments will continue until Suri turns 18 and ultimately amount to $4.8 million. Holmes does not receive any direct spousal support, per their prenuptual agreement. Holmes is granted sole custody of Suri.
This case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.
Holmes, Cruise divorce
Holmes and Cruise decide to divorce after five years of marriage. Cruise admits his surprise that Holmes files for divorce five days before his 50th birthday.

When I read it, it was very scary and I actually started hearing noises in my house because the characters felt so real to me that I believed all of the scares. I identified with all of these characters and I was thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, what would I do [in that situation]. Oh my gosh, what was that?!’ It was so well written.

She’s very focused when she’s at work, then in between setups she’d be very focused on Suri. She had to be all things to all people. It’s a challenge, but she certainly is up for it. She’s really good at it.

Cruise and Holmes get married after dating for 19 months. The couple exchange vows in front of 150 guests at the Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy. Holmes wears an off-the-shoulder Armani gown with an ivory silk train draped in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery, along with an ivory tulle floor-length veil and ivory silk shoes. Cruise wears Armani with a navy blue tuxedo from the Giorgio Armani collection. The jacket label reads, “Giorgio Armani for Tom Cruise.” Their rings are white gold Cartier with diamonds.
