Collider data available to public
CERN launches the Open Data Portal to make data from the Large Hadron Collider available to the public for free. CERN scientist:
Data from the LHC program are among the most precious assets of the LHC experiments, that today we start sharing openly with the world. We hope these open data will support and inspire the global research community, including students and citizen scientists.
Pentaquark discovered
Scientists at Large Hadron Collider discover the Pentaquark, a particle predicted to exist since the 1960’s.
The pentaquark is not just any new particle… It represents a way to aggregate quarks, namely the fundamental constituents of ordinary protons and neutrons, in a pattern that has never been observed before in over fifty years of experimental searches.
