Headey appears as Queen Regent Cersei Lannister in the ninth episode of Game of Thrones, Baelor. Jack Gleeson plays King Joffrey Baratheon. Sophie Turner plays Sansa Stark, his betrothed. Sean Bean plays Lord Eddard Stark, the former Hand of the King. As Lord Eddard stands accused of treason, Cersei, Sansa and Joffrey determine that he will be allowed to live if he confesses guilt, and will be banished to join the Night’s Watch. In order to save his family, Lord Eddard confesses at his public trial. Joffrey announces that Cersei and Sansa have asked for mercy. He then says that they have the ‘soft hearts of women,’ and orders Lord Eddard’s execution. As Cersei tries to intervene, Lord Eddard is beheaded.
