Karla
Collins plays the seemingly normal Paul Bernardo who, along with his wife, get imprisoned for the kidnapping, sexual exploitation and murder of three girls. The film, Karla is based on true events that took place in Canada. Collins has stated on multiple occasions that he regrets taking the role due to the animosity felt towards both the film and the crime itself.
I felt like I was going to a loved one’s funeral every day when I came home. It was just so difficult for me. I’ve heard some actors say, `The scene is over. I’m out of it. A responsible, professional actor doesn’t take it home with them.’ But for me playing this role, it was impossible. I made every effort to leave it on the set, but I have to say some of it followed me home. And it took weeks to shake it after we stopped shooting.
