The New Normal

Leakes is cast to be a part of the show The New Normal set to air September 2012. Leakes will play Rocky,  a personal assistant. Recalling her reaction to reading the dialogue written for her character,

This is not a damn black woman. This is a white woman talking in this script. Every time I read the words, I think, this is nothing I would be saying.

Leakes is looking to transform with her acting.

I always say, being on a reality show is a blessing and a curse. You get these great opportunities, but people see me as NeNe. It’s tough for them to see Coach Roz [on ‘Glee’] or Rocky.
