Gwendoline Christie plays Brienne of Tarth, a female soldier loyal to Lady Catelyn Stark. Brienne and Jaime travel north towards the Stark family’s armies after being captured by soldiers of a Stark ally. Their captors torture Jaime as they ride, forcing him to wear his severed right hand on a string around his neck as it decomposes, and refusing him water. As they camp, Jaime refuses to eat, saying that he would rather die than live without his sword hand. Brienne retorts that this is the first time he has encountered genuine loss, and convinces him to stay alive.
