The Bear and the Maiden Fair
Coster-Waldau appears as Ser Jaime Lannister in the seventh episode of the third season of Game of Thrones, The Bear and the Maiden Fair. Gwendoline Christie plays Brienne of Tarth, a female soldier loyal to Lady Catelyn Stark. At the castle of Harrenhal in the Riverlands in central Westeros, Jaime and Brienne are held captive by soldiers loyal to the northern lord Roose Bolton, who is allied to the Stark noble family. As retribution for the amputation of his hand by Bolton men, Jaime is allowed to leave for King’s Landing escorted by Bolton soldiers. After departing, Jaime inquires what will happen to Brienne. He is informed that an attempt by Brienne’s father to ransom her has failed, and that the Bolton soldiers plan to use her for entertainment. Returning to Harrenhal, he finds the men forcing Brienne to fight a bear. Knowing that Roose will not risk harming such a valuable captive, Jaime leaps into the bearpit himself, forcing the soldiers to kill the bear. He is able to secure Brienne’s release, and they depart for King’s Landing.
