Coster-Waldau appears as Ser Jaime Lannister in the first episode of the fourth season of Game of Thrones, Two Swords. Charles Dance plays Lord Tywin Lannister. Lena Headey plays Jaime’s twin sister, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister. Gwendoline Christie plays Brienne of Tarth, a female soldier loyal to Lady Catelyn Stark. At King’s Landing, Jaime is reunited with his family after a year of captivity by the Stark noble family. Lord Tywin presents Jaime with a Valyrian sword. He demands that Jaime leave the kingsguard and marry in order to become his heir. In order to remain close to Cersei, Jaime refuses, and his father informs him that he is disinherited. Cersei presents Jaime with a golden prosthetic to replace his amputated right hand, but indicates that she has taken other lovers and their relationship is no longer the same. Jaime clashes with King Joffrey Baratheon, who is unaware that he is Jaime’s son from his incestuous relationship with Cersei. He discusses with Brienne whether he will keep a promise of returning Sansa Stark, the oldest daughter of the Stark noble family, to her mother.
