Bucks vs. Ducks
The Ohio State Buckeyes face the Oregon Ducks in the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer:
We know Oregon. I’ll probably be able to call Oregon’s plays because we study them and they study us. There’s a mutual respect.
Oregon, OH changes name
Oregon, Ohio changes its name temporarily to “Oregon, Ohio Buckeyes on the Bay, City of Duck Hunters” following a petition on change.org from Matt Squibb and Mark Rabbitt, who ask that the town show support for the Ohio State Buckeyes against the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff National Championship. City proclamation:
Whereas, the City of Oregon officially adopted its name in 1838 as Oregon Township which happens to be 21 years before the State of Oregon received its statehood in 1859. And The City of Oregon has been petitioned by residents of the city to make it clear that we are not associated with Oregon University Ducks Football.
Wins Sugar Bowl
The Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 42-35 in the Sugar Bowl, the second semifinal of the College Football Playoff. Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer:
We’re good enough. That was a sledgehammer game. That was a classic.

Will play two-game series
Notre Dame and Ohio State agree to play in a two-game series in football in 2022-2023. The Buckeyes will host the Irish September 3,2022 in Columbus and the Irish will host the second game September 23, 2023 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. Jack Swarbrick, director of athletics at Notre Dame:
I am excited we are able once again to bring these two program together on the football field. Football games between Notre Dame and Ohio State make great sense from a strength-of-schedule standpoint. In addition, with (Ohio State athletics director) Gene Smith having both played and coached football at Notre Dame — and with (Ohio State head coach) Urban Meyer having served as an assistant football coach at Notre Dame — there are some obvious, high-profile connections between our two institutions.
