Blackwater

Dinklage appears as Tyrion Lannister in the ninth episode of season two, Blackwater. The armies of Stannis Baratheon, played by Stephen Dillane, attack King’s Landing in a bid to place Stannis on the Iron Throne. Tyrion destroys Stannis’s fleet using a magical substance known as wildfire. Stannis and some of his men are able to land and storm a city gate. King Joffrey Baratheon, played by Jack Gleeson, shows cowardice and retreats from the front lines, leaving Tyrion to lead the defenses. As Tyrion leads the city’s small band of kingsguards and City Watchmen on a sortie outside the walls, a Lannister soldier turns on him in an apparent murder attempt, but he is saved by his squire. As defeat looks certain, a Lannister army arrives to save the city.
