Chosen for GOP debate
The candidates for the GOP Presidential debate are announced: Trump, Bush, Walker, Huckabee, Carson, Cruz, Rubio, Paul, Christie and Kasich will appear on stage on Aug 6 in Cleveland, OH. RNC chairman Priebus:
Our field is the biggest and most diverse of any party in history and I am glad to see that every one of those extremely qualified candidates will have the opportunity to participate on Thursday evening. Republicans across the country will be able to choose which candidate has earned their support after hearing them talk through the issues.
Signs loyalty pledge
Trump meets with Priebus and signs the RNC loyalty pledge.
The best way for the Republicans to win is if I win the nomination and go directly against whoever they happen to put up. And for that reason, I have signed the pledge. So I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party and for the conservative principles for which it stands. We will go out and fight hard, and we will win.
The RNC has been absolutely terrific over the last two month period and as you know, that’s what I’ve wanted. I don’t want to be treated any differently. [In return for signing] I got an assurance that I will be treated fairly.”
CNBC ‘should be ashamed’
Priebus criticizes CNBC for how it handled the moderators and the overall proceedings for the Republican debate.
CNBC should be ashamed of how this debate was handled. While I was proud of our candidates and the way they handled tonight’s debate, the performance by the CNBC moderators was extremely disappointing and did a disservice to their network, our candidates, and voters. Our diverse field of talented and exceptionally qualified candidates did their best to share ideas for how to reinvigorate the economy and put Americans back to work despite deeply unfortunate questioning from CNBC.
