We had preview this week and the crowds have just been fabulous. We did 600 auditions for 28 dancers from New York to L.A. W did 75 auditions for the six featured singers. We have 30 musicians that are the best players in the history of Las Vegas.

It’s kind of like a brand new film. There’s new characters, it takes place in the modern age, the modern day. The generation of kids who are going to see this Annie without having seen the original, this is going to be their Annie. This is what they’re going to know, this is the cast that they’re going to know. And because the cast is so diverse, I think they’ll be able to see themselves in it. More diverse groups of kids will be able to see themselves in it, which I’m really proud of.

I studied it. I tried to not make fun of them, but make her a real person. I tried to make Gabrielle a real person that you cared about.

It was a good event to play, but all I did was smile a couple of times and the papers made it out for me being some goofy teenager being there all happy. It was fun, but for me it was work because I was performing. I’m like five-foot-eight and most of those girls are like six-foot-one. I felt like a hobbit in the Elven Kingdom.
