Eastwood plays Luke, a champion bull rider looking for a comeback, in this romantic drama, directed by George Tillman Jr, from the book by Nicholas Sparks. Luke’s romance with Sophia (Britt Robertson) a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City’s art world is tested by their conflicting paths, and inspired by their connection to Ira (Alan Alda), whose wife was killed in a car crash. Tillman Jr. on casting:

On the leading man’s assets:

Eastwood says he did not ride a bull in the film, but did so once filming wrapped, despite the studio telling him not to. He lasted 2.5 seconds.
