LeBeouf stars as Kale in the mystery-thriller film, Disturbia.  His character is a boy under house arrest who is convinced that his next door neighbor is a serial killer. The director, D.J. Caruso, already had an actor in mind for the part when LeBeouf came in and read for the role:

Shia came in and completely won me over in the very first scene.  He was so dynamic and his eyes are so expressive. I thought, he is really going to be accessible. The guys are going to like him and the girls are going to like him because he’s the kind of guy you are going to root for ….

Constantine

Film Appearance0 Comments

LaBeouf co-stars in the fantasy-horror film, Constantine, a movie based on Vertigo Comic’s Hellblazer comic book.  The film portrays John Constantine, a cynic with the ability to communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true form, who hopes to win favor back into Heaven.  LaBeouf plays Chas Kramer, the quirky sidekick to Constantine who hopes to learn a few tricks of the trade along the way.  The young actor describes what it was like playing Reeves’ sidekick:

Keanu’s great to perform with just because he’s so giving. What was cool was yes, my character looks up to him and I look up to him because he’s an American icon, so I got to pull a lot of that out of reality and put it into the film. It was a lot of fun to work on. Very easy.

Holes

The actor makes his feature debut in Holes, a comedy adventure film based on the 1998 novel of the same title by Louis Sachar (who also wrote the screenplay). LaBeouf plays Stanley Yelnats IV, a decedent of an unfortunate family that has been cursed 100 years due to an ancestor who didn’t keep a promise to a fortune-teller.  Always in the wrong place at the wrong time, Stanley is sentenced to attend Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp, for a crime he didn’t commit.  The detainees have to dig a 5 foot hole in the desert each day to “build character.”

Everyone just thought I was a big goofball. Holes changed that. When your movie makes almost $ 70 million, it’s a different ball game.
