158 fatalites and over 1000 injuries occur after a tornado tears through the Joplin, Missouri area . The tornado is regarded as the 7th deadliest in U.S. history and the deadliest since modern record keeping began in 1950. It earns an EF-5 classification with winds exceeding 200 mph.
