The Island of Dr. Moreau

In this sci-fi horror thriller based on the H.G. Wells novel and directed by John Frankenheimer, Kilmer plays Montgomery, the increasingly insane and violent assistant of equally insane Dr. Moreau. Moreau and Montgomery are conducting genetic and behavioral experiments on human/animal hybrid creatures that they have created – at least until a man they rescue sees what they are up to.  Also starring Marlon Brando, David Thewlis and Fairuza Balk. On the bad press:

Well, it hurts. To take two things: [Marlon] Brando and I have been friends for a long time, so they said we weren’t. I got along great with the crew, so they said I lit some guy on fire. Exactly what wasn’t the case. And they said that I was irresponsible. I would go to the set on days when I wasn’t called to try and make it better.
