Under investigation
The federal Department of Education investigates the way Hunter College and five other New York schools deal with sexual harassment and violence complaints. Hunter officials say they are reviewing their procedures, and assert that the investigation stems from a 15 month-old complaint, which has been withdrawn. The school community is pleased by the investigation; one member says:
I haven’t had any bad experiences, but I do think that colleges need to pay more attention to sexual violence and to the students and listen to them and take those, the issues way more seriously.
The other area institutions under investigation are Binghamton University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and Sarah Lawrence College.
