Canada imposes sanctions

Canada imposes sanctions on Syria in reaction to the ongoing government crackdown on pro-democracy activists. Foreign Affairs Minister Baird says four more senior officials of Assad’s regime are banned from travelling to Canada. In addition, the assets of the Commercial Bank of Syria and telecom company SyriaTel are frozen, and Canadians are prohibited from making transactions with these companies.

To isolate the Assad regime, Canada is taking measures to extend its existing sanctions against the regime and its backers. The Assad regime has lost all legitimacy by killing Syrian men, women and children just to stay in power. This campaign of terror must stop.

Denied entrance to Canada

Brown is denied entrance to Canada where he has sold out shows in Montreal and Toronto. The exact reason for Brown’s entry ban is not known. Brown tweets, but later deletes comments regarding the ban.

Unfortunately I will not be able to perform in front of sold out crowds in Montreal & Toronto. The good people of the Canadian government wouldn’t allow me entry. I’ll be back this summer and will hopefully see all my Canadian fans!

A spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency:

Several factors are used in determining admissibility into Canada, including involvement in criminal activity, in human rights violations, in organized crime, security, health or financial reasons.

Canada suspends visas

Work on permanent-resident applications is also suspended. An immigration ministry spokesman says the measures are different from Australia’s.

We have instituted a pause, but there is room for discretion if we can be assured that someone is not infected with Ebola.

Alvarez: ‘You’re a fool if you don’t think Conor can put Floyd away’

Makes Statement

Alvarez says not to underestimate McGregor.

I think a lot of boxing fans are looking at Conor as if he’s never, ever boxed. Even the way they’re talking seems that they’re writing him off like he never boxed. He boxed, he understands boxing. I just think his chance is going to happen within the first four rounds. And Conor can. I think you’re a fool if you don’t think Conor can put Floyd away. I think he can. I think he can land a punch and put Floyd away…I think if it goes past the fourth round and gets in the fifth, sixth, seventh where it can become a technical boxing match, I think it could look look one sided. Floyd’s the king of that, he’s the king of swimming and not getting wet. He can punch and not get hit. So I think if it goes further past five, six, seven, eight he could win by TKO. But I think before that time, that’s where Conor’s time is — in the first four rounds.

McGregor, Mayweather trade insults at Toronto Press Tour show

Press Conference

Appearing at Budweiser Stage, Toronto, on the second date of their World Press Tour, McGregor takes to the stage first, wearing a tailored light blue suit. Mayweather follows wearing a black TMT Canada flag T-shirt. After a brief face-off the two fighters are supposed to take their seats, but they keep shouting at each other. When it is time for his speech McGregor hits the microphone and leads the crowd to chant ‘Fuck the Mayweathers!’

He won’t do shit. Do f-ckin’ nothing. Fuck Showtime too. [To Showtime Sports CEO, Stephen Espinoza] You little Weasel. You’re a f-cking bitch…When Floyd was 28 he was on Oscar De la Hoya’s undercard. Floyd is an old, weak bitch. 50 strippers on the payroll this man has. What’s he doing with that strip club? Shout out to all the stripper bitches on the payroll. At least Rob Kardashian only had one; he has 50.

A word to all the pundit pussies. You’re f-cking crazy if you think this man has a chance. His head is too small. I’ll bounce his head off the canvas and dribble that shit. he’s never fought a day in his life, he’s a runner. He’s boxings biggest bitch.

What the f-ck is he wearing? He looks like a little breakdancer. 12-year-old. He’s 40! You’re 40 years of age. What are you doing carrying a schoolbag on stage? You can’t even read.

Mayweather starts with his Hard Work chant.

One thing we do know. The f-cking fans can’t fight for you…We’re not talking about being at the top for 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years. Motherf-cker, 21 years. I can’t read but I make money. [CMG: You owe money]

Then he opens his backpack.

We gonna show you what the boss looks like. If you believe in yourself what you say you do bet your whole fight check you bitch. [CMG: No f-cking problem. Send the fu-cking contract…You know I like you [CMG: You love me]. And you all got the f-cking nerve to believe in a fighter who’s a quitter. I don’t quit. I don’t fold under pressure. I’m the best, and I know I’m the best.

Mayweather takes an Irish flag from a fan and walks around in it, prompting McGregor to grab the backpack.

There’s only about five grand in here!

Mayweather gives the flag to McGregor, who throws it at him. They then face off for a minute before leaving the stage.

Trump’s government ‘a who’s who of really despicable people’

Makes Statement

Hammill comments on Trump:

I’m in total denial. I’m glad I have [my new show ‘Pop Culture Quest,’] to take my mind off what’s going on. Because if you look at what’s being assembled for our government it’s like, yikes. It’s a who’s who of really despicable people…It’s tempting to say, ‘Well, I’m moving to Canada, I can’t stand it. But in other ways, it’s a challenge to stay and defend your country and do what you think is right and not retreat and hide under the covers. It’s not gonna be easy, that’s for sure.

Settles Trump University suit for $25 million

Settlement

Trump agrees to settle three cases relating to Trump University for $25 million. The cases were brought by former students who paid $35,000 for real estate “secrets” from his “hand-picked” instructors. Trump will not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement. Schneiderman

Today’s $25 million [£20m] settlement agreement is a stunning reversal by Donald Trump and a major victory for the over 6,000 victims of his fraudulent university. The victims of Trump University have waited years for today’s result and I am pleased that their patience – and persistence – will be rewarded by this $25 million settlement.

MSG gate record broken

Breaks Record

White says UFC 205 has already broken the all-time gate record at Madison Square Garden. The gate record was set in 1999 with a boxing match between Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis which drew takings of $13.5 million at the door. The UFC’s own gate record of just over $12 million was set at UFC 129 when more than 55,000 people paid in to see Georges St-Pierre defeat Jake Shields in Canada.

We’ve been in all the biggest and best arenas all over the world – Madison Square Garden is a big deal. All the legendary fights that have been held there, all the legendary events and we actually broke the gate record for Madison Square Garden. So far, so good. I’m excited…Obviously it’s our first time getting into MSG and it’s been such a big deal getting there [that] I wanted to make sure when we went to New York.

Indigogo campaign starts

Crowdfunding campaign launchInvention

SkunkLock launches an Indiegogo campaign for SkunkLock, a U-shaped lock that prevents bicycle theft by releasing a non-lethal chemical gas that induces vomiting and shortness of breath when tampered with. Skunklock says the gas is perfectly safe and can only be released by trying to cut through it with an angle grinder, and that it penetrates high-end gas masks – though most thieves are unlikely to go to such lengths. Some states have limitations on shipping chemical compounds like pepper spray, so Skunklock has an alternative formula ready for some customers.

Our formula irreversibly ruins the clothes worn by the thief or any of the protection they may be wearing.
