‘The perfect day’

Personal Best0 Comments

Broad comments on his career best performance which led to the Australian Cricket Team being bowled out for 60 before lunch on the first day of their test match against England:

Without doubt that is the best day’s cricket I’ve been a part of. To have a 214-run lead after day one is probably as powerful a performance as I’ve ever seen and certainly been involved in. It was just one of those days that you dream of, home ground, picking up 300 Test wickets and then a career best. It’s been the perfect day for us, but we start again on day two.

Of his own performance:

It has not really sunk in. I see the scoreboard on the ground and it doesn’t seem real, it was a bit of a freak day really, but it is what you work hard for and what you train for.

Bowled out in 60 runs

Match Report0 Comments

The Australians suffer one of their most embarrassing ever innings as England bowl them out for 60 runs. History is made as several records fall. Captain Clarke:

That’s as tough a day as you have as a player, certainly as a captain. Nothing went right at all today, that’s for sure.

Announces retirement

Retirement0 Comments

Clarke announces that he will retire from international cricket after the fifth test of the Ashes, a series the Australian Cricket Team has already lost.

I don’t feel sad, I’m more disappointed or sad with the way we played through this series and the way I played as captain. That’s the most disappointing part. I’m not sad about this being the right time to walk away, because I believe it’s the right time. I believe I’ve been blessed to have the career I’ve had. I’ve played over 100 Test matches for my country I’ve been a part of some amazing teams…We’ve won more than we lost so that’s a nice feeling and I’ve been lucky enough to captain Australia as well, so I’m extremely thankful to all of my team-mates and all the people that have helped me firstly make it into the Australian team and then help me have the success I’ve had, I’ve always said cricket owes me nothing, I owe it everything and I still believe that.
