According to the Center for Responsive Politics, outside groups have spent $2.2 million on Simpson, and roughly $3 million on the Idaho contest in total. Defending Main Street, started by former Ohio Republican Rep. Steve LaTourette, has given $457,568 to Simpson, while the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent $725,000 on his behalf.
