More than 12 police officers injured
Protests against police turn into riots. Roving bands of looters, some armed with crowbars, roaming the city, hurling rocks at police, destroying patrol cars, smashing store windows and torching buildings. Police Commissioner Batts comments on the more than a dozen injured police officers.
All are going to be OK but sustained heavy damage to their bodies.
Bold Conquest likely out
Despite sitting only two spots outside of qualifying for the Kentucky Derby, trainer Asmussen says Bold Conquest will “probably not” elect to join the list of also-eligible entries for Wednesday’s post position draw.
I think the easy part about it for us is he’s stabled here, and this is the barn where he’ll be. If he doesn’t get in, we’ll just make the decision and continue to train. It’s like anything else. You work from the position we’re in…What we concern ourselves with is how he’s doing. We feel really good about how he came out of Arkansas. He was back on his feet this week. I thought he was a little flat last week, and then I thought he had a much better breeze today. That’s what you’re looking for and hoping to see.”
Syrian border airstrike
Israel launches an airstrike after troops see “a group of armed terrorists” approach the border of the Golan Heights.with an explosive intended to target Israeli troops. It said that Israeli aircraft “targeted the squad, preventing the attack.” Iran’s state-run, English-language satellite news channel Press TV reports four people were killed. Hours before the border strike, Israeli Defense Minister Ya’alon warned Syria and Iran against arming Hezbollah with such weapons.
