Magpie and the Dandelion
The band releases their eighth studio album, produced by Rick Rubin. Scott explains what set the tone and style of the album:
I guess we were just entering times in our lives where that inward thinking and that inward journey—some would call it spiritual, some would call it whatever they want to call it—I think we were entering that part of our lives as a band.
The Carpenter
Second album in the making
The band is working on a second album with producer Rick Rubin. Testing out new songs during live performances, the band has no set time frame or schedule for work in the studio. Scott hopes to have a finished product by the middle of the year, and envisions recording up to 25 songs at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, N.C. before choosing which ones will ultimately appear on the album.
If we only make it to 13, which is where we’re at now, and that’s the end of it, that’s OK, too.

We’ve seen a lot of temporary, disposable, plastic music in the mainstream. When the public becomes over-saturated with that, it’s very pleasing to the ear to hear something more simple and human and with less libido, like someone’s just talking to you.

Americana awards

Americana is contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw.
Emotionalism
The band releases its fourth studio recorded album under the Ranseur label, and draws the attention of producer Rick Rubin. Rubin said about his decision to subsequently offer the band a contract:
As so on as I heard the depth in their singing and songwriting I was in for the ride. It’s unusual to hear such openhearted personal sentiment from young artists today.
The Gleam
The band releases a six track EP, produced by Ramseur Records.
Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions
The band releases its fourth studio recording, produced by Ramseur Records. The album is recorded in a home-made studio, as described in the liner notes on the album cover:
The songs herein are the result of two weeks spent in the very western part of North Carolina. In a house by a lake, we spent our days and nights realizing and recording these, our most current chapter of songs. We made the building our studio; piano by the sliding glass doors, drums in the dining room, cables on the carpet, microphones from the ceiling. We found the feeling there and we hope and believe that you will hear it. Of the 31 tracks recorded, 17 appear on the album.
Live, Volume 2
