Deschanel, Gibbard marry

Marriage0 Comments

Deschanel weds Gibbard after almost a year of dating. The couple exchange vows in an evening ceremony held near Seattle, Washington. Gibbard proposed too Deschanel with a three-carat and platinum ring from Neil Lane. Deschanel:

Probably the most surprising thing is that it’s not really that different. You still have to make a commitment and think about that commitment every day. It’s not like you get married and then all the work is done for you. You get married and you’re still in a relationship and you’re still doing your best to make it the best relationship you can.

Gibbard:

I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me. I’d seen her movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful.

Deschanel, Gibbard divorce

Divorce0 Comments

Deschanel finalizes divorce from Ben Gibbard after roughly three years of marriage. The divorce papers were filed by the actress in December 2011 in a Los Angeles court, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the cause of the dissolution. On relationships:

[True love] that lasts forever… yes, I do believe in it. My parents have been married for 40 years and my grandparents were married for 70 years. I come from a long line of true loves. I’d be more likely to go for somebody who is like me. Well, I like creative people, so whatever that means… Yeah, authentic and creative.

On people’s speculations on the divorce:

Well, with all due respect, I’ve never read it. I don’t see any of the websites that covered it. I don’t read pop-culture sites, I don’t read gossip magazines, I don’t read this shit. And that’s exactly how you deal with it. You just don’t read them.

Criticizes Tidal

Makes Statement0 Comments
Gibbard says the streaming music service is dead on arrival.

If I had been Jay Z, I would have brought out ten artists that were underground or independent and said, ‘These are the people who are struggling to make a living in today’s music industry. Whereas this competitor streaming site pays this person 15 cents for X amount of streams, that same amount of streams on my site, on Tidal, will pay that artist this much. I think they totally blew it by bringing out a bunch of millionaires and billionaires and propping them up onstage and then having them all complain about not being paid. There was a wonderful opportunity squandered to highlight what this service would mean for artists who are struggling and to make a plea to people’s hearts and pocketbooks to pay a little more for this service that was going to pay these artists a more reasonable streaming rate. And they didn’t do it. That’s why this thing is going to fail miserably.
