William Bradley Pitt is born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to a devout Baptist household. His father William Alvin Pitt manages a trucking company, and his mother Jane Etta (née Hillhouse) works as a school counselor. The eldest of three children, he has a brother named Doug and a sister named Julie. Soon after his birth, his family moves to different towns in Missouri and settles in Springfield, where he attends Kickapoo High School.
My father came from a very poor background, but I was very fortunate in the sense that we were never in need. He wanted to give us more opportunity than he had, a better shot at a better life. He did that for us. I had a very supportive family environment that gave me room to explore and discover things about myself.
Interview with the Vampire
Pitt stars in this Neil Jordan-directed film based on the Anne Rice novel. He plays Louis de Pointe du Lac, a 200-year old vampire who sits down with a journalist and tells him about his transformation and exploits as a vampire. The great thing that came out of that movie is that it birthed my love affair with New Orleans. We were shooting nights. So I just rode my bike around all night. I made some great friends there.
Legends of the Fall
Pitt stars in this Western epic film based on the Jim Harrison novella. He plays Tristan, Col. William Ludlow’s adventurous and wild son, who practices American Indian customs. He and his family go through various trials that are brought about by nature, love, prohibition, and the ongoing war. His co-stars include Sir Anthony Hopkins, Aidan Quinn, Julia Ormond, and Henry Thomas. On his character:

Seven
Pitt portrays a young and newly-married homicide detective in this psychological thriller film directed by David Fincher. He and his older partner played by Morgan Freeman investigate and hunt down a sadistic serial killer who murders his victims according to the seven deadly sins. Kevin Spacey plays the killer and Gwyneth Paltrow plays Pitt’s wife.
I certainly don’t have the answer, but maybe because being as tough as life is, seeing people go to these depths, it’s just fascinating. It’s horrifying but there’s fascination.
Meet Joe Black
Pitt stars in this fantasy romance film directed by Martin Brest. He plays Death, who comes back in the form of a young man named Joe Black. He appears in the home of dying billionaire Bill Parrish, played by Sir Anthony Hopkins in order to learn how to live, love, and exist like a human being. He and Parrish’s daughter played by Claire Forlani develop a romantic relationship. The film also stars Marcia Gay Harden and Jeffrey Tambor.
Fight Club
Pitt stars in this film adaptation of the Chuck Palahniuk novel, playing Tyler Durden, an assertive iconoclast disguised as a soap salesman who influences a depressed and jaded Edward Norton to pour his angst into fighting. Together, they form an underground club of men who find comfort and relief through fighting each other. Directed by David Fincher, also starring Helena Bonham Carter and Meat Loaf.
We had some great choreographers on the fight scene once we got into the club itself. We did a little training in the beginning. But again, these guys aren’t supposed to be skilled fighters.
Pitt, Aniston marry
Pitt and Aniston wed after almost two years of dating. The private ceremony takes place at the Malibu mansion of TV producer Marcy Carsey, and is attended by 200 guests. The couple met in 1998 through a blind date set up by their respective agents. The bride wears a gown by Lawrence Steele, while the groom dons a tuxedo by Hedi Slimane.
Snatch
Pitt stars in this comedy crime film directed by Guy Ritchie, playing an Irish gypsy, Mickey O’Neil, who finds himself fighting in boxing matches for a ruthless crime boss named Brick Top, played by Alan Ford. The Mexican
Pitt stars in this romantic comedy film directed by Gore Verbinski. He plays Jerry Welbach, a man traveling around Mexico with his girlfriend to find a valuable antique handgun called The Mexican for a local mobster named Arnold Margolese. The film also stars Julia Roberts, James Gandolfini, and Gene Hackman. On his on-screen romance with Roberts:
There was a Hepburn-Tracy quality to it, their relationship – the bickering and the relationship they had was funny. And also, bantering.
Ocean’s Eleven
Pitt stars in this Steven Soderbergh remake of the 1960 film. He plays Rusty Ryan, the loyal sidekick of con-man Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney. Together with several other cohorts, the two men plot a heist at the casinos of Terry Benedict, who also happens to be the boyfriend of Danny’s ex-wife Tess, played by Julia Roberts. Other cast members include Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Carl Reiner. On his character’s constant eating:
It was just something that started, and couldn’t stop. I don’t know what happened. It’s just the idea that you never have time to sit down and have a meal while you’re trying to pull off this heist, so he’s grabbing food all the time.
Troy
Pitt stars in this epic war film based on Homer’s Illiad. As the demigod Achilles, he leads the Greek army to war against the Trojans because of a bet that involved Prince Paris of Troy and Helen, the wife of the Spartan king Menelaus. He challenges Paris’ brother Hector to single combat, kills him, and drags his corpse back to the Greek camp. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger. On his character:
There’s a real telling line when he says, ‘I want what all men want. I just wanted more.’ There’s a real restlessness, and as I say, an isolation in the guy. Whether he’s running from death, or trying to find himself in a personal glory, he’s at a point where he’s had that glory and that… that hasn’t done it for him.
Ocean’s Twelve
Pitt returns as Rusty Ryan in this sequel to the 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven. He reunites with Danny Ocean and Linus Caldwell to conduct another heist in Europe. They need to give back the money they stole from Terry Benedict lest they risk going to jail in the US. Joining the original cast members are Catherine Zeta-Jones, Vincent Cassel, and Robbie Coltrane. On working with his co-stars:
I’d like to call it work but it was pretty much automatic for us. First of all, there’s a very low level of maturity amongst all the guys there so that helps. We bonded very quickly, then we got the beautiful women to make us look better but it’s pretty automatic.

The ‘assassins’ thing is secondary to me. The movie to me plays so much more on the level of relationships. That was kind of the backdrop or the metaphor for getting lost in your work. But having said that, [Angelina Jolie’s] a damn good shot.

Jolie, Pitt affair
Jolie and Pitt start an affair on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Jolie:
Because of the film, we ended up being brought together to do all these crazy things, and I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened. I think a few months in I realized, ‘God, I can’t wait to get to work.’ … Anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair…It took until, really, the end of the shoot for us, I think, to realize that it might mean something more than we’d earlier allowed ourselves to believe. Danny Ocean and the rest of the gang devise a plan to sabotage the opening of Bank’s casino. Joining the regular cast members are Ellen Barkin and Bob Einstein. On working with his cast members for a third time:
It’s true. We have good fun together. We all know each other pretty well now and know each other’s families.

We weren’t expecting twins. So it did shock us, and we jumped to six [children] quickly. But we like a challenge… It’s great for the sex life. It just makes you a lot more creative. So you have fun, and as a woman you’re just so round and full.
