Emmy nomination
Gleeson is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards for portraying Sir Winston Churchill on Into the Storm.
Being Irish, I had to take a couple of deep breaths. This was a serious piece of work and a massive challenge, and quite terrifying up to a point. In some ways, there’s a sense of you in Churchill, and you have to deal with his words and not in mimicry. You go to the source material as much as you can.
Troy
Gleeson plays Menelaus in this adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Iliad, directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Paris is promised the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen, though she is already wed to Menelaus. He abducts her and sparks the 10 year siege of Troy. Co-starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Diane Kruger.
The more I got to know Menelaus, the more I liked him. He’s one of these poor guys that even though he has a lot going for him, even when he won, he lost.
