Backs McGregor over Mayweather

Makes Statement0 Comments

White says that McGregor deserves Mayweather’s respect.

Conor McGregor … if he touches you, you go to sleep. Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands. You know how Floyd knocks people out? When they’re not looking. Watch the Victor Ortiz fight. This kid’s just getting started. This kid’s 28 years old. Floyd can say what he wants about Conor, but even other fighters have to respect him. He’s special. Floyd’s never even come close to doing to other fighters what Conor does.

Wants $100m to fight ‘afraid’ Mayweather

Makes Statement0 Comments

At a bar 1 OAK in New York City, McGregor takes over the DJ booth, hijacks the mic and calls out Mayweather.

Floyd’s not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd. He’s a solid businessman on what he’s been able to do … he’s a f-cking animal at what he’s been able to do. But as far as real fighting … as far as true pure unarmed combat … Floyd don’t want none of this. He wants a boxing match, he doesn’t want a fight. I want $100 million cash to fight him under boxing rules … he’s afraid of a real fight.

Kavanagh: No McGregor Croke Park fight

Makes Statement0 Comments

Kavanagh says he doubts there will be a Croke Park fight for McGregor, because pay-per-view fights are scheduled for 10pm in Las Vegas.

I doubt [there’ll be a fight in Croke Park] because it would have to be at 5am and I don’t think the authorities would allow it. Could you imagine an Irish crowd at 5am? Even the fight we just did was at 1am – we were walking out and there was people yawning in the changing rooms. At 1am your body starts to shut down and we were going out to fight…They always do it for Vegas. I don’t quite know why. I guess they’ve done the numbers and it all makes sense. It’s all down to pay-per-views. They did one in Sweden for a famous Swedish fighter. It was at 5.30am and there were people in the crowd fast asleep.

Smolka: McGregor has made ‘marketing a skillset’

Makes Statement0 Comments

While training for his flyweight bout in UFC 207, Smolka talks about McGregor’s influence in the sport’s marketing.

Honestly, you know I tried to talk a bit for my last fight and do the trash talk and stuff. Man, I can’t even imagine the amount of time this guy spends rehearsing and thinking up his lines and plotting what he’s gonna say and stuff. On top of all the media coaching and keeping that persona and stuff, on top of all the work that it takes to be a fighter, I can’t even imagine how hard this guy works…Props to him you know. I feel like he’s made media and promoting like another skillset, another attribute, like another niche in your resume and props to him for working on it.

Explains thinking during McGregor fight

Makes Statement0 Comments

Alvarez talks in detail about his thought process during his UFC 205 bout with McGregor.

What bugs me about the whole thing is that he didn’t do anything that we didn’t prepare for and I have no one to blame but myself about it and that’s what f-cks me up about it and gets me angry. It would be easier if I could go back to my coach and say ‘You son of a bitch, you messed up and you didn’t tell me this was going to happen’. We literally got ready for all of this and I guess there’s a difference between knowing and doing. We knew but I simply didn’t execute…The whole plan, the plan of this fight, if we had to sum it up. It was go left and mostly wrestle. Not wrestle all the time but put him in wrestling exchanges and put him where he’s uncomfortable. But I don’t know if it was after I got hit that I went into fight-or-flight mode, but I got hit and I went right and I boxed. I did the opposite of my plan…It was the best time I’d ever had on fight week. Honestly, before we went out even my coach Mark Henry, our warmups in the locker room just before we went out to make the walk were probably the best I’ve ever looked. I was confident. When I try to make sense of this whole damn thing, it’s really awkward to sit back and think about. I don’t understand what went on.

You have to give up. I need to fight for the title. You know this. I deserve it

KH: Hey, be careful. I’m gonna smash your boy.

‘I was already two-weight champion, bitch’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Nick Diaz is inside 1 Oak nightclub when McGregor ranted about wanting $100 million to fight Floyd Mayweather.

I Was Already Two-Weight Champion, Bitch. F-ck you!

The veracity of Diaz’s two-weight claim is questionable, While he has previously held the welterweight title in both the IFC and StrikeForce promotions, it is unclear whether he was champion at another weight.

McGregor ‘avoiding Nurmagomedov’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Nurmagomedov’s trainer Mendez says McGregor is avoiding his fighter:

Yes, 100 percent, he is ducking Khabib. I know that from the words he is saying. ‘He doesn’t fight enough for my taste’? Give me a break. You can say, ‘Hey, I want to fight Nate Diaz a third time.’ Fine. Say that. But don’t try to put my guy down because you are trying to avoid him. Don’t belittle my guy. That’s bullshit…When [McGregor] fought Chad Mendes, I thought it proved he wasn’t ducking anybody. But now he’s doing this and I’m thinking he’s trying to avoid Khabib. I think Khabib, [lightweight contenders] Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson all give Conor a hell of a fight—but the guy who gives him the worst time, by far, is Khabib. He’s the strongest grappler in the division.

Offers McGregor part of his UFC share

Donation0 Comments

When Wahlberg, a minority shareholder in UFC, is asked about McGregor wanting a share in UFC he initially says he should pay his own way, before offering a share of his.

He’s gotta cut the check. Everyone’s gotta cut the check if they want a piece…You know what, as a matter of fact, I’ll give him a piece of mine ‘cos his is the face of UFC right now…He’s a hustler like me so there’s probably a lot of other opportunities for us to go out and make money together.

When asked if he would like to see McGregor in a film:

He’s a movie waiting to happen. Why not?

Superfan spends €11,500 on tattoos, trips

shonagh-nelson-tattooShonagh Nelson, a hairdresser from Downpatrick, County Down, says she has spent over €11,500 on trips to Las Vegas and Manchester to follow McGregor, as well as a McGregor tattoo. She wants McGregor to sign her thigh so she can have his signature tattooed

I’m a young mum of a little boy and I’m sure I’ll get told I’ve wasted all that money. But I work hard for a living…and we are doing what makes us happy as a family. We all love Conor McGregor and I’d count us as super-fans. We’re not asking anyone to pay for our hobby…The tattoo cost me £600 but I’m so pleased with it. I just hope Conor will get to hear about my passion for his sporting prowess and allow me to get that autograph. I’m going prepared and in hope. It’s the best I can do.

Says McGregor won’t fight until after baby born

White confirms McGregor will not fight again until after May 2017. The fighter is not only taking time off for himself, but also for his girlfriend Dee Devlin so she’s not burdened with the stress of another fight while she’s dealing with her first pregnancy.

He won’t fight before May. His girl gets super stressed out when he fights. He doesn’t want her having any of that stress while she’s pregnant…He’s good. He should take time off. He’s been fighting nonstop. Nothing wrong with him taking time off. It’s good for him and her and it’s good for the baby.

White says the UFC will survive without him:

We’ve done this for 16 years, with a lot of big stars who couldn’t fight or moved on – Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre. There’s not a day in this office I don’t get the question, ‘What are we going to do about this guy?’ Every day I turn around, I’ve got a reporter saying we’ve peaked. If I listened to any of that — we probably would be done.

McGregor had staph infection weeks before first Diaz fight

Makes Statement0 Comments

Rogan says a possible reason McGregor lost the first fight against Diaz was that he had a staph infection weeks before the fight.

The guy steps in, loses to Diaz, takes the Diaz fight on short notice-by the way, after a staph infection. Here’s something not a lot of people know, he had a pretty significant staph infection and was on antibiotics until like, I think two weeks before the fight. If you don’t think that drains your gas tank you’ve never had a staph infection, and you’ve never taken antibiotics. They’re brutal on your whole body. Your body is made up of all this shit you don’t consider to be you, but it is you, stomach flora is a real part of you. Your body is essentially an ecosystem, and when you have a staph infection, staph infections are dangerous as f-ck and people die from them. So they hit you with some heavy duty antibiotics, I’ve had staph twice and it’s not fun. The first time I had it, I took the medication and I couldn’t believe how I felt. So weird, I felt lightheaded, I felt weak, I was like ‘woah’. It’s super strong stuff. I was like ‘Wow, imagine this guy 2 weeks after that.

McGregor has ‘made a mess’ of the featherweight division

Makes Statement0 Comments

chan-sung-jung-headshotNearing the end of two years of mandatory national service, Chan (“The Korean Zombie”) talks about his upcoming return to the Octagon.

Conor McGregor has made a mess of the featherweight division. I don’t think he’ll be coming back to featherweight, though. A lot has happened in my time away. We’ll have to see what happens. We have to see if McGregor is going to defend the belt or not. I doubt it, though…I haven’t really thought about [my path to the title], I need to get a comeback fight under my belt first. Right now, that’s my focus. Of course, I want to be back in the title picture as soon as possible, but first thing’s first…McGregor is very good at what he does. Only he can get away with that kind of stuff. It’s too bad we’re not in the same division. Since I don’t think he’s coming back down to featherweight, we probably won’t get the chance to fight. But, obviously, he’s become a big star and is making lots of money. I honestly don’t know if it’s good for the sport, since he’s just looking after himself.

‘McGregor just dances around the subject of fighting me’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Woodley talks about  the pair of incidents he had with McGregor at UFC 205.

I think he was trying to bait me. But the hook was taken and he didn’t do nothing with it…Before the video came out. The one he was upset about. Even though he did the shit. Don’t do it and then be mad that somebody video taped it. Anyway, even before my video came out that showed where he faked tossing the chair. Before that video came out, at the press conference he said ‘I’ll take all of those belts over there!’. So I said ‘What belts?’. And then he was quiet and didn’t say much. Never once would he mention my belt. He never would mention fighting for the welterweight title. He just danced around the subject. He never once would say ‘I will fight Tyron Woodley’. Or ‘I will take his belt’. He started planting those seeds later. I saw him doing it and was like ‘Hell yeah! I’ll plant those seeds with you.
