Holloway: I’d gladly fight McGregor

Makes Statement0 Comments

At the post-fight press conference after his win over Jose Aldo, Holloway targets McGregor:

I’m the champion of my division and I got to keep everything rolling. I got to keep everything going. I got to [get] thrown in the deep end. I’m not going to go on a hiatus. As long as I get contenders, I’m going to fight. If [the] UFC call me up for that reason, any reason to fight him [McGregor], I’d gladly fight him. If the Conor fight don’t happen, it’s not on my side, I’ll tell you guys right now. It’s on their team. Their team talks about me all the time. They tell me about how I’m the best guy in the world and blah-blah-blah and this and that, but now, really think about this. Right now Conor’s talking about fighting Paulie Malignaggi in MMA. Let that sink in. Paulie Malignaggi in MMA, I don’t know what to say.

Receives £350 speeding fine

Judgement0 Comments

McGregor is fined £350 for driving at 98mph in a 60mph zone. McGregor had initially been reprimanded by Judge Walsh for not appearing on time, the third time he had failed to show. Walsh:

I have to ask you the question… how much to you earn? Please don’t tell me you earn more than €110 million in a day?

McGregor:

€140 million…I got the fixed charge notice and attempted to pay it…It didn’t pay and that’s it.

Walsh:

That’s not it…I would warn, however, despite your fortune in life, that you take cognisance of other people on the roads.

McGregor is given the option to pay the fine in installments.

White: McGregor ‘may never fight in the Octagon again’

Makes Statement0 Comments

At the UFC’s Las Vegas headquarters, White says McGregor may not fight again:

Conor might never fight again. The guy’s got $100 million. I’ve got guys that made less than that and were lawyers and went to school their whole life and quit working. Try to get up and get punched in the face every day when you’ve got $100 million in the bank. Money changes everything with a lot of people.

As for a potential fight with Tony Ferguson:

Listen, we ain’t taking any direction from Ferguson. With [McGregor], it’s not about ‘defend or vacate’. We’re working on a new deal right now. We’ve got to work out this new deal.

Report: McGregor punched gangster’s associate

Rumor/unconfirmed0 Comments

Reports say a 50-year-old man who is an associate of the Kinahan cartel but is not involved in criminality himself, stepped in to intervene after McGregor hit another man with ‘one punch’ to the head. The Kinahan crime gang, which is believed to be the country’s largest importer of cocaine, are headed by the ‘Dapper Don’ Christy Kinahan and his son Daniel. McGregor also punched a third man during the incident before he was escorted out of the pub and into a car. Senior security sources:

No – one wants to see one of Ireland’s most high-profile sports celebrities – and icon to kids all over Ireland –dragged into a bitter row involving serious criminals. There is a possibility that the cartel might now get involved to stop anyone escalating further. Conor McGregor is well liked and respected.

Aldo: Strip McGregor if title if he doesn’t defend it

Makes Statement0 Comments

Aldo says the UFC should strip McGregor of his lightweight belt if he doe not defend it.

Thank God my division is moving. It would be bad if it was stuck, but my division is moving. It’s hard, right? Every athlete dreams of becoming champion, fighting for the title, and the guy is holding up the division. But it’s up to the UFC to make the decisions. The UFC needs to do what has to be done: you take the belt away or make him defend it. I think everyone is waiting for that…He has to defend it, has to put his belt on the line in order to become champion. He only won the title. For me, Ferguson has great possibilities of becoming champion in the future.

McGregor pulled from December title fight

Appearance Cancellation0 Comments

Due to his actions in the ring at Bellator 187, where he attacked referee Marc Goddard, McGregor is pulled from his December 30th fight. Mike Mazzulli, president of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports and the director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation:

McGregor took it upon himself to jump into the cage. And that adversely affected the outcome of the fight. Mr Redmond was injured, He made it difficult for the doctors to get in there and administer some medical attention. You don’t jump in the cage at at any time, in any fight. I’m never comfortable when someone takes it upon himself to act like a five-year-old and jump into the cage. The bottom line is, he was unprofessional, disrespectful and it was not acceptable in my eyes – in any situation…If he was licensed for me, I would suspend him indefinitely and I would require for him to come to a hearing and explain himself. Conor McGregor is a great, great fighter. But when it comes to what he did to Mr Goddard and Michael Johnson, what would possess someone to do that?

Referee: McGregor told to sit because he was acting as fourth cornerman

Makes Statement0 Comments

Goddard says he told McGregor to sit down in Gdansk because he was acting as a fourth cornerman.

The reason I interjected is because Artem gets a fourth cornerman cageside giving instruction. That’s not allowed. Imagine had Conor talked him through a fight-ending sequence. Then what? Conor was basically acting like a fourth cornerman. Walking around the cage side wherever and whenever he wanted…When Fili took down Artem, Conor was right there. That’s simply not fair and not allowed. I won’t have it. He can’t do as he pleases…If Conor had stood up, stayed at his seat, then he could have shouted till his heart’s content. That’s what he’s supposed to do. But what he simply cannot do, what he is not allowed to do, is approach the cage at any point and as I say act as the fourth cornerman…That’s unfair and unjust. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’ve done this forever, in any country in any situation. My integrity is not wavered and neither is the rules. We can’t allow that. I simply had to act.

McGregor told to move away from cage

Makes Statement0 Comments

During a fight between Andre Fili and Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, referee Marc Goddard pauses the action briefly to walk over to McGregor to tell him to leave the area. McGregor, who was not a licensed corner, was shouting directions to Lobov outside the Octagon. Goddard:

Conor, what’s got into ya man?” Come on! Sit down, please! Be a professional!

Malignaggi in talks to fight McGregor

Makes Statement0 Comments

Malignaggi says he is in talks to fight with McGregor

I know Al Haymon’s [Malignaggi’s advisor] talking to Dana White. I know they’re speaking, so if they want the fight they’ll make it. Once I spoke to Al and Team Haymon, and they told me they wanted to make this fight, I knew that the only was this fight doesn’t happen is if [Conor] had absolutely no balls. This fight will pay him more, this fight will get him more exposure, this fight is a bigger fight than anybody else he has. There’s no more Mayweather fight. This fight is the biggest fight there is. So once they told me that, I knew the only way this doesn’t happen is if this guy has absolutely no balls. Which wouldn’t surprise me because he has no balls. But the way they’re going to present it to him, it’s going to be presented in a way where he really shouldn’t turn it down.

McGregor ‘in talks over WWE debut’ at Wrestlemania 2018

Rumor/unconfirmed0 Comments

McGregor is reportedly in talks with the WWE to make n appearance at Wrestlemania, in April 2018. Source:

Conor is a huge wrestling fan. His entire persona on stage he has developed from watching performers like Ric Flair and The Rock. These are the top dogs at self-promotion and trash talk. He watched these guys when he was younger. This is something he’s always wanted to do. The WWE guys have asked him to do shows before with them, but the timing was never really right. But this time it looks like a deal is going to be locked into place.

Stephanie McMahon hinted at the news as she praised McGregor and insisted he would do well in the wrestling ring.

I think Conor would be a perfect fit for WWE. He certainly has the personality, the athletic ability, the appeal. He speaks his mind, he is very genuine and authentic and he has a hell of a Vince McMahon swagger.

Coach Kavanagh targets St. Patrick’s Day in New York for McGregor’s next fight

Makes Statement0 Comments

Coach Kavanagh says March 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York is a possible date for McGregor’s next fight. Reports last month suggested that McGregor had booked a comeback bout with Nate Diaz that was initially scheduled for December 30th at UFC 219. According to leading MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, that fight and date is still the plan for all parties concerned, but a deal is still far from being finalised. Appearing on The Late Late Show, Kavanagh hinted at an alternative date of March 17th:

We’re already talking about 2018 and some fights in 2018. I’m looking forward to getting him back in the gym and back into the rigmarole of training. I think that’s best for him. I keep saying it out there – so hopefully it becomes a reality – but I would love Madison Square Garden, St. Patrick’s Day, New York, for a Conor fight in the UFC.

I think Conor would be a perfect fit with WWE. He certainly has the personality and the athletic ability, the appeal. He speaks his mind, he’s very genuine and authentic and he has a hell of a Vince McMahon swagger.

Freddie Roach teases McGregor-GSP fight

Makes Statement0 Comments

Boxing coach Freddie Roach says that he has been training St-Pierre for his upcoming fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 217 for Bisping’s middleweight title. When Roach is asked if he could help improve McGregor’s boxing skills, the 57-year-old dismisses the idea.

It’s too late [for McGregor]…GSP is going to kick his ass anyway.

While there is potential for a 170 pound fight between the two (McGregor fought Nate Diaz at that weight), the UFC denies that such a fight will take place:

GSP is coming back after 4 years off. Conor is looking to defend his title. There is zero talk about GSP vs. Conor.

Tony Ferguson: I’m not interested in fighting McGregor

Makes Statement0 Comments

During the UFC 216 media day, Ferguson says he will not be joining those calling out McGregor. Ferguson, who will be headlining UFC 216 on Saturday in Las Vegas alongside Kevin Lee, as they fight for the UFC interim lightweight title, says he is not that interested in “red panty night”:

I like blue panties. He’s not gonna defend or vacate, he’s gonna have to fight me. There’s no insider information. He’s never spoken my name. I’m one of the most ruthless vatos out there. This guy, he doesn’t want a part of me. I’m not aiming at him. I don’t give two f–ks.

Ferguson says McGregor is avoiding a fight against the best in the division:

I don’t want to fight someone who doesn’t want to fight me or compete against some of the best. When you’re saying, ‘I’ll fight anybody, anytime.’ You’re f–king full of shit. For me, I’ve been fighting anybody, any time, any weight – straight up.
