Takes six wickets on debut

Joins Team0 Comments

Rabada’s figures of six wickets for 16 runs are the best by any bowler on his one day international debut and the best by a South African bowler in any one day international. He is only the second bowler to take a hat trick in his debut match and the third South African overall to take a hat trick.

It is great to do well for your team and put them in a position to win the game. The hat trick ball … I didn’t know where to bowl. I was thinking bouncer or just a normal good length ball, but then I just went yorker. I missed it by miles. It was a bit of fluke but I will take it.

Hindustan Times profile

Interview0 Comments

The Hindustan Times profiles Naik who says that despite his success, he only earns Rs 15,000 a month, and that not a single official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come forward so far to help him.

Despite representing India for 13 years, I don’t get any money for playing cricket. It’s my NGO, Samarthanam, where I work as a sports co-ordinator, which pays me Rs 15,000 as monthly salary. Despite my contribution to Indian cricket over the years, I am still waiting for a government job. The salary I draw is not enough for sustenance.

He says his dream is to meet India batsman Virender Sehwag:

I wish I could meet him one day. I would like to invite Sehwag for the next T20 World Cup.

Fastest five wicket haul

‘The perfect day’

Personal Best0 Comments

Broad comments on his career best performance which led to the Australian Cricket Team being bowled out for 60 before lunch on the first day of their test match against England:

Without doubt that is the best day’s cricket I’ve been a part of. To have a 214-run lead after day one is probably as powerful a performance as I’ve ever seen and certainly been involved in. It was just one of those days that you dream of, home ground, picking up 300 Test wickets and then a career best. It’s been the perfect day for us, but we start again on day two.

Of his own performance:

It has not really sunk in. I see the scoreboard on the ground and it doesn’t seem real, it was a bit of a freak day really, but it is what you work hard for and what you train for.

Announces retirement

Retirement0 Comments

Clarke announces that he will retire from international cricket after the fifth test of the Ashes, a series the Australian Cricket Team has already lost.

I don’t feel sad, I’m more disappointed or sad with the way we played through this series and the way I played as captain. That’s the most disappointing part. I’m not sad about this being the right time to walk away, because I believe it’s the right time. I believe I’ve been blessed to have the career I’ve had. I’ve played over 100 Test matches for my country I’ve been a part of some amazing teams…We’ve won more than we lost so that’s a nice feeling and I’ve been lucky enough to captain Australia as well, so I’m extremely thankful to all of my team-mates and all the people that have helped me firstly make it into the Australian team and then help me have the success I’ve had, I’ve always said cricket owes me nothing, I owe it everything and I still believe that.
