We’ve got a new Doctor now. Capaldi’s begun his tenure and he could be there for 10 years or more. Peter should be given a clear run without any talk of me or anybody else…I’ll probably never come back but if I did I wouldn’t mind at all if it was like the last time. Five minutes every 15 years or something, I come in and steal the glory.

Entertainment Weekly presents a first look at Capaldi in the first episode of season 8 – Deep Breath. He is shown in ragged clothes alongside of Coleman. Fans speculate that this is either a disguise or the fore-runner to what will eventually become the Doctor’s permanent costume. Of the premier, Moffat says:
It’s a big introduction—he’s the new Doctor. There’s no point pretending that it’s not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you’ve got to sell in that first episode. It’s going to be about ‘What’s he like? How’s he different?’ I suppose it feels a bit like a character piece, but there’s plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who.
The first full trailer for season 8 of Doctor Who is released. The trailer was first broadcast by BBC during the half-time interval of the World Cup finals.
Contrary to recent incarnations in which The Doctor has flirted with his companions and developed romanticized relationships with them, Capldi says there will be no flirting in the new series.
There’ll be no flirting, that’s for sure.
Williams is slated to guest star in an upcoming episode of Doctor Who.
I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who, as it’s such a big and important part of British culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.
Moffat:
We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.
At the British Film Awards, Williams says she’d like to play Dr Who if Elba does not take the role.
Yes it would be cool but right now I’m locked into some other things. I think a female doctor would be incredible. I think a black doctor would be incredible. I’m all for Idris Elba – but if not I’ll take it for the team and do it!
