Chuck Close ‘Asterisk’ protest

To protest allegations of sexual harassment by Close, Sulkowicz stands in front of artworks by Close, housed inside The Met and the 86th Street subway station, wearing underwear, high heels and asterisks covering her nipples. The black asterisks drawn across her face and body allude to a New York Times article titled “Chuck Close Is Accused of Harassment. Should His Artwork Carry an Asterisk?”

An asterisk is such a small request. It’s the matter of a few points of ink. It’s so ridiculous that these people would prioritize the exclusion of a teeny little punctuation mark over a story of a woman’s abuse. These asterisks represent embodied experiences and are not these abstract punctuation marks. They have real consequences.

She also stands before Picasso’s “Demoiselles d’Avignon” in the Museum of Modern Art.

I grew up in New York. Every time we went on a field trip, I was expected to look at this violent depiction of chopped-up women’s bodies while being told it’s a fantastic painting. It felt important for me to stand in front of that as well.

Sulkowicz says she was catcalled and verbally harassed by passersby and museum guards during her performance at the Museum.

Visits Belgrade amid protest

Biden arrives in Belgrade for a one-day visit. He expresses his condolences for NATO military action, before walking with Prime Minister Vucic in a picturesque borough of Belgrade, under high security.

I’d like to express my condolences to the families of those whose lives were lost in the wars of the 1990s, including those killed as a consequence of the NATO air strikes.

Hundreds of Serbian ultra-nationalists protest the visit by chanting their support for Donald Trump, as they gather near the Serbian presidency building. Protestor:

Trump is the alternative to globalisation. He will destroy old centres of power in the United States and he is a supporter of Russia.

After visiting Serbia, Biden will travel to Kosovo to encourage both countries to do more to normalize their relations.

Goes on hunger strike

Mizzuo hunger strike imageButler goes on hunger strike as a response to the lack of action from UM System President Wolfe to several instances of racism and discrimination in past months. He says he will end the strike when Wolfe is no longer in office, or when his internal organs fail. He cites MSA President Payton Head being called a racial slur on campus, the removal of Planned Parenthood services, the #ConcernedStudent1950 protest and the drawing a swastika in feces in a bathroom in Gateway Hall.

Let it be known I have no ill will or thoughts of harm toward Mr. Wolfe. But I do have an urgency to make the campus I call home a more safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all identities and backgrounds. Although these incidents individually are not (Wolfe’s) fault as a collection of incidents at the university, they are his responsibility to address…In each of these scenarios, Mr. Wolfe had ample opportunity to create policies and reform that could shift the culture of Mizzou…Being sound of mind and heart, I have committed myself fully to this endeavor because I believe that the University of Missouri System and all of its constituents deserve a leader who is competent enough to perform at all levels of the position including administrative, political, financial and emotional.

Protesters throw condoms

Planned Parenthood supporters and Code Pink activists scream insults and throw condoms at a Fiorina event, a tailgate before a Hawkeyes game in Iowa. Fiorina talks about her with one protester:

She came on and said she was concerned about women’s health and as a cancer survivor I said, I was too. And, she said she was concerned about women’s rights and I said I was too. I said you ought to do a little fact-checking before you come out here and shout propaganda… Taxpayers fund Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood funds pro-abort Democrats. It’s a big shell game.
