Runaway Jury

Hackman plays Rankin Fitch, a jury consultant working for a gun manufacturer, in this legal thriller directed by Gary Fleder from the novel by John Grisham. Fitch provides background information on the jury pool in order to put together a jury that is most sympathetic to his client. He finds himself caught up in the possibility of being able to buy the verdict. Co-starring John Cusack, Rachel Weisz and Dustin Hoffman. On playing a villain:

Hackman wins the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as New York City narcotics detective Jimmy Doyle in William Friedkin’s thriller The French Connection. Liza Minnelli presents the award.
