Pearce wins the Emmy Award for Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie at the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards for portraying Monty Beragon in Mildred Pierce.

The difference between doing a five or six hour mini series versus a movie is you can allow a moment to breathe as you do in real life. If you have an awkward two minutes you can spotlight that. In a film you have to cut out sometimes and there is something missing.

In this drama directed by David Michod, Pearce plays Nick, a hardened Loner who amidst a global economic collapse pursues a gang of thieves who steal his only possession, his car. He captures a thief’s brother and the two form a bond while they track the other brother down. Co starring Robert Pattinson, Scott McNairy, David Field and Anthony Hayes.

There were a lot of discussions. We had so many conversations about the film, the start of the film, what he wanted to make. I think I always knew I was going to say yes. Even though I said no a couple of times at first — I was in the middle of a couple of other jobs and I was fairly burnt out. I wasn’t going to say yes easily. But in the back of my mind, I wanted to say yes because it was David and a lead role and an interesting film. I was prepared to do the work with David to the point where I could say yes. Had it been another director, a lesser director, I might have said, There isn’t enough character here, so I don’t know if I can say yes.
