The other day Drew Barrymore and I were talking, and she said, ‘Thank you for going first and getting all the scratches.’ People like to classify you, and when you start pushing out of your box it makes them nervous. There’s a lot of resistance to women coming to the table with anything new. But if it were Justin Timberlake or Jay Z or even Donald Trump, everyone would be like, ‘OK’.

I think we are a generation of women who are different in a lot of respects, and some of us want to be ambitious, and for it not to be a dirty word. We want to be feminine and soft, we want to be maternal, we want to be sexual, we want to be explorers – and we can be a combination of all of these archetypes. You can be powerful, but you can also be vulnerable… (I have) learnt the power of kindness and the importance of nonjudgemental ways of looking at others.

I am incredibly close to the common woman in that I am a woman and I’m a mother and we all are in a physical body with beating hearts with compassion and love. We are all seekers. We all want questions. We all want, we all want fulfillment. We want to live our best lives. We want to be healthy and happy and to squeeze the most that we can out of life. I think that’s all women.

I see myself as an actor, a mother and an entrepreneur. I don’t see myself as a guru at all…I’m not a guru because I feel I’m the one asking the questions.
